hi yall. i'm looking for work. writing things like this has been a severely career-limiting move, but i am as sharp as ever, and very good at what i do. i know the industry cannot stay this way, but if you want to toss my CV over to HR, it would help a lot in the meanwhile. jneen.ca/pages/cv

ladies, is your programming - a field dominated by rich white men - driven by fashion trends - practiced as a demonstration of status - funded by vanity projects for failsons - filled with queers trying and failing to break even that's art, sorry

I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive

hitting me tonight that it's been almost 8 months since my last music release. i promise i have a big cool project in the works but for various reasons it is taking quite a while. i will be proud to show it all when it's done but until then here's a little preview of something as a treat

remembering the time during the uc berkeley tree sit protests where i, in the crowd below, watched someone in full black bloc climb a telephone pole, pull out a fucking bow and arrow, fire it into the trees, tie off their end, and shimmy over the police barricade with a backpack full of supplies

This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

because it is relevant to my work, I have tried very hard to educate myself on how AI works, be fair and measured in how I evaluate it, and regularly test new tools to confirm or debunk my priors and tbh AI haters are just nailing it with less work like 99% of the time. keep at it folks

This unit is ~2x larger than our current space, and features two breakout rooms. Check out this 3D render we made. Our next open house will be Saturday November 14th. Hope to see you there!

This can't have been an easy decision for House House to make, well done to them. By chance, I read this news just as I was watching an interview with Humza Yousaf in which he speaks about the need for those with public profile, platform & security to use them for Palestine.

A rule-breaker knows they are violating a rule, and to me this is the primary purpose of the rule. Punishments, if they exist, should be primarily about stopping damage. This sometimes includes bans!

But you can't measure the effectiveness of a rule by counting punishments IMO.

This is what I call the "carceral view" of rules: that a rule is 100% useless without a perfect, impartial, and severe system of punishment attached.

In reality, most of the power of a rule is in expectation-setting: it should point to a social norm and clearly communicate what the social expectations are. People don't *like* having to lie, and are likely just to go somewhere else first, because that's easier.

It just fundamentally misunderstands the nature of rules imo. Rules are important even when enforcement is difficult!
