Everytime I watch a youtube video I get ads calling Roger Marshall a pedo-protector and responsible for inflation and a scumbag who sues his patients. Is this what it's like to live in a swing state????

Update October 6 ModernWarships and I have reach a settlement I consider fair, essentially what I would have asked to build this thing in the first place, and are discussing some new work going forward. I consider the matter satisfactorily closed and am grateful to all. Cheers!

I did NOT give ArtStorm Games permission to use my design in #ModernWarships but I have to admit they did a beautiful job on the model and nailed every nonsensical detail to far higher fidelity than I ever did!

@ynot1989.bsky.social I saw you're patreon post and how you were trying to find a map projection. I think you used Coordinate Reference System: North_America_Albers_Equal_Area_Conic Authority ID: ESRI: 102008 Would've sent this over patreon but i can't post images in replies.

Honestly it seems like every American wants to believe that they can return to pre-2016 arrangements, while not understanding that after Trump 2.0 other countries will definitely be leery of that. These countries also know that they can put conditions on any effort to just turn back the clock.

You’d legitimately see the rise of a domestic Hispanic IRA if something insane like that were to happen. It actually terrifies me that so much of the GOP can’t see how much military action in Mexico would destabilize domestic politics

All nationalism is fake but "we founded an independent country because we were angry about the prevailing price of oil and natural gas and disagreed with federal policies regarding pipeline investment" is even faker than usual.

I will say this. Quebec separatists usually come from a genuine belief that Quebec is a distinct culture and nation that should be a country. Alberta separatists seem to think of separation as a big "I'm mad" button that will magically force Ottawa to write them checks for being very special boys.

My brain refuses to believe that Kansas is in play but man it increasingly seems like Kansas is, in fact, in play.

RACE RATING CHANGE: Texas U.S. Senate 🟡 Tossup → 🔵 Tilt D Our model gives James Talarico (D) a 55% chance of defeating Ken Paxton (R). Talarico has consistently led in polling, but his advantage remains within the margin of error, and the race is still extremely close.

Americans are gonna love living through a world where we have to make hard fiscal decisions to keep things from going boom

So the most important trade corridor has a linchpin surrounded by an entity that actively attacks international shipping, and a country nicknamed "Africa's North Korea," all the while KSA effectively lost all ability to export crude. At least there'll be cool movies about our time period 🙃

If a hit on the E-W pipeline is confirmed, stuff is about to get really, really stupid. Stupid…er.*

Perhaps there will be a legislative majority friendly to Canada in 2027. Perhaps there will be an entire government friendly to Canada in 2029. But 2031? 2033? Until this country has two parties who value peace & democracy, no one can trust us

The median American voter, voted for it be 2019 again and for Trump to make them rich, under the very mistaken belief that Worse Things Aren't Possible, and quite literally everyone is paying for it

How's an honest warmonger meant to make a living? ...they do kill some POWs... some civilians... they enjoy it though. We give their pleasure centers a nice big jolt every time. Demand for PMCs is about to skyrocket, LIKE THE GOOD OL' DAYS AFTER 9/11

I feel like more limited collector swarms than the full matriyoshka are likely in the plausible-midfuture, maybe a % of solar output. Turning jupiters into compute fully seems hard, but a supramundane shell of computers using the Jovian underneath for fusion fuels and material feedstocks… less so?

@timberwind.bsky.social do you think Jupiter- and Matrioshka-brains could plausibly exist in a couple thousand years? perhaps à la Orion's Arm. I think humanity would definitely build dyson swarms and other enormous infrastructures but i'm not sure if we'd ever build a conscious/living dyson swarm.

I'm from Kansas and recently did a huge roadtrip (last week) around the Northern Rockies. The topography of Glacier Ntl Park and the Fraser Canyon in BC was incomprehensible as I was driving through them. Also somehow Utah and Wyoming make 80 mph feel like 50 mph.

Classic example is "Okay we want FPVs, what are we putting on them?" This immediately draws people up short. I have my own ideas, but a lot of people really never thought about where they would actually find the thing that actually makes the drone a weapon.

That we could demand our government commit atrocities of our own free will and do so at almost no noticeable personal expense, and that it would result in fewer American dead after 25 years than one day at Antietam, is terrifying to anyone who needs most people to be good for emotional reasons

Not to put this one person on blast but I find these sorts of takes really frustrating. China isn't guaranteeing anyone's shipping. China isn't able to guarantee *China's* shipping right now. The PRC responded to the War in Iran by reducing oil imports by roughly 40% and spending down reserves.

We all carry around with us at all times a device capable of accessing one of the greatest collections of information ever compiled and yet so many of us choose not to use it and instead just believe whatever half-remembered, batshit crazy thing some rando said once. It's so fucking bleak.
