My take yesterday was intentionally inflammatory, so here’s another version: AI isn’t inevitable. It’s here, pervasive, & not leaving (much like the internet). We need to adapt & chart a new course, learning how to best use it for good, not evil. Many can refuse/disengage, many can’t & shouldn’t.

dame@dame.is

my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

Hello from the new server! My little closer server (2012 MacBook Pro i bought for $20 used) has been upgraded to a brand new mini PC with less RAM! Things seems to be running WAY better. Now what to do with the mackbook running Ubuntu server for fun?

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

This new Fright Fest game from @chris.pardy.family is really neat. You pick two besties from your follows, and then your rpg.actor characters go on a turn-based tactics adventure, collecting candy and beating monsters in a town populated with familiar faces from your social graph. 🎃 Go try it! 👻

Spent last night sandbagging and building mud deflectors for neighbors houses last night. There are many still dealing with this flood.

Also had a quick look at my entire server stack. nothing I server runs PHP anymore. I'm glad I don't play with old languages anymore.

The Treeline appview has been updated and the compromised TLS certs revoked.

One last thing about X tonight: noting X has 10x the number of regular users than Bluesky means jack shit when a) a shitload are bots, b) the algorithm boosts right-wing content over everything else so actual engagement there sucks, c) 10 million active accounts is more than enough to hang out with.

Russia is cooperating with Iran. So why is Trump cooperating with Russia? Like the diesel deal, this decision is a gift to the very forces attacking our service members.

I've maxed out all the free tier products I use for the month. Good problem to have I think, but the jump to paid means I better have a reason more than "this is fun"

Webtiles seem to be pretty cool, a silly proof of concept totally derailed and delayed a release just to "make it look cooler"

Treeline World@treeline.world

Version .20 is out. Lots of behind the scenes updates over the last few releases. We hope finding and viewing activities in the archive is easier and faster.

"Oh, and RimWorld isn’t the only game on Waylith..." I'm ready for whatever this is!

Ludeon Studios@ludeonstudios.bsky.social

Announcing RimWorld update 1.7! It moves the game from Unity to Waylith, our in-house engine, and runs 2-4x faster in our tests. Try it now on the unstable beta. Oh, and RimWorld isn’t the only game on Waylith... Read on Steam: store.steampowered.com/news/app/294100/view/672882362547178633

Zelenskyy: "Prices are rising because of the war in the Middle East, the blocking of Hormuz. Everyone understands it. If we want to speak with people fairly, if we want to be clear, if we want to speak with our nations openly, people have to hear reality. Don't play games with people."

Were cooking! With over 1000 activities indexed, we needed a better way to look at the archive. Also, skiing should be detectable and viewable as well. The next update is in testing! Maybe out today, but @larakin.systems has to go to Moab UT. to generate more test data. So more likely next week.

Spaces are, of course, being designed on top of atproto spaces. Give these early explorations a look, think of them as a starting point for Atmospheric communities that could begin in the app, then integrate atproto apps to build completely custom experiences for the people you care about.

alex benzer@alexbenzer.com

we have an idea for communities in the app that we're calling "spaces" — places where people can gather around shared interests or social groups. here's a peek at some early prototypes. these are explorations, not polished or final. looking for feedback, esp from community builders 👀

The folks at @graze.social have just opened a new portal for tracking the discourse around the midterm elections through Nov 3rd. Volunteers can sign-up to help moderate each of the local newsrooms, and they've created this Uncle Sam Hat item to give away as a thanks! 🗳 midterms.graze.social

I never expected much out of this, but I'm enjoying the process. My little closet server might deserve an uprade soon.

Treeline World@treeline.world

The last few weeks have been amazing at Treeline. From our very first non-test users, to 8 others joining and 100's of activities shared! @larakin.systems is doing his best to keep the things running. We've got plenty more fixes in the pipeline! What do you want from Treeline.world?

Treeline v0.17.1 is out. Gear is a real thing now: add your bikes and shoes, apply them to past activities (with undo), and watch the mileage and replace-me warnings add up. Installs as an app on your phone too, and the Back button finally works. treeline.world #treeline #atproto

Cars have a geometry problem. The massive infrastructure dedicated to them is an illusion of poorly allocated space. Cities run best on walkability, bikes, and transit. The personal automobile has no rightful future dominating our streets. Autonomous, EV, nor petrol.

Im heading out for a ride with a friend so I figured Treeline needs group activities.

Treeline World@treeline.world

🌲 Treeline v0.14 is here! Group Dynamics & Activity Replay on ATProto: • Group outings: auto-detected group cards & tagging • Activity replay: interactive map scrubber & elevation sync • High-scale archive imports with exact dedup • PDS-backed athlete blocks Explore: treeline.world

SpaceX just launched the 14th Starship test flight, and it's now successfully in orbit for the first time. This is an amazing achievement, and I absolutely detest how Musk has ruined this sort of thing both for me and for humanity.

Fictional worlds and roleplay are the center of the universe. Seems right.

Okay so I've built a new Atlas, this time it lets you explore the conversations on Bluesky over the past 7 days graphically. It should update every ~6 hours and help you navigate the information environment that exists on here. I've learned a LOT about what people do here today... atlas.jazco.dev

This is true. In 2016, I got into an argument with a gay man on a menswear forum. I've since made it my mission to make every man dress gay, thereby destroying his ability to tell who is actually gay and, ultimately, his chances of finding love. I built my social media following to achieve that goal

all I wanted to do was upload 20 years of Strava history twice to see if duplicate checks worked...

Treeline World@treeline.world

Sorry guys. our appview is currently down. Some pesky test user decided to import 1200+ activities twice! (it was me, I'm the problem) Were working on the fixes. Please stand by...

Im excited that someone is seeing it! now I have to actually make it work. thats scary.

aww look at this little helpful tip/nudge poe gave someone about publishing lexicon schemas 🥹

Poe@poe.atpota.to

and one nudge: i went looking for a com.atproto.lexicon.schema record for world.treeline.activity.record and there isn't one, so nobody else can resolve your shapes yet. publish it and other apps can read treeline records without guessing. that's how rpg.actor shares theirs.
