Awful results in Alberta, where voters had the literacy to vote overwhelmingly against separation but not to toss out the 5 racist immigration red herrings, which now get weaponized by provinces, police, & the feds to crack down even harder. www.jurist.org/commentary/2...

jurist.orgCanada’s Deportation Machine Is Punishing the Wrong PeopleCanada is deporting people at a record pace, and the political story being used to justify that pace does not hold up. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the federal agency that enforces immigr...

Vital thread on what’s really going on with the AI issue. Bottom line: some of them are panicking because they ain’t ready to pay the piper.

Kelly Clarkson has always been an asshole. Look up her purchase (out from under museum that had fundraised to be able to buy) of Jane Austen’s delicate silver ring. Wore it and damaged it after buying it and then when she wasn’t allowed to take it out of England made herself a victim. She sucks

If those of you in other provinces ever wonder how Alberta ended up in the situation it now faces, this post is authored by one of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's most trusted advisors.

This is infuriating and heartbreaking! Did they cut peoples’ meds to be able to afford their ridiculous pro separation ad campaign? I’m so GD sick of this government

The Breakdown AB@thebreakdownab.bsky.social

This is enraging, heartbreaking and wholly unnecessary. It’s also healthcare under Danielle Smith’s “refocusing”. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli www.facebook.com/share/v/1Dkc...

My brilliant and beautiful standard poodles Tulip and George passed their Canine Good Neighbour test tonight! I’m so proud of them. George is the blue one, he was reactive to dogs and quite a handful and we have worked so hard to get where we are ♥️

Smith is being hurt by the separation referendum (federalists think she is a separatist, and separatists think she is a federalist). Both the UCP and NDP are at 41% support, a 10 point drop for the UCP since Spring. Smith is also more unpopular than Nenshi. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Jesus Christ this lady is a dink

The Breakdown AB@thebreakdownab.bsky.social

Wherein Danielle Smith admits that at least one of the questions in her incredibly costly, incredibly divisive referendum… Won’t accomplish anything and she never expected it to. She just wanted to make a point. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

The AI industry wants you to say "the AI just did that thing on its own!" Like, United Health's AI that's denying a shitload of claims with a 90% error rate? They wanted you to think it's just the AI.

No, AI isn’t gonna kill us all in the next 10 years. No, LLMs don’t keep going rogue. No, general AI superintelligence isn’t anywhere close and we’re not even on the path toward it with LLMs. All that shit is ultimately propaganda about how powerful and cool these systems supposedly are.

Thank god, some sanity in this province.

This by-election in Calgary’s deep suburbs, in a seat UCP won last time by 14%, had potential to become either a clear warning about Danielle Smith and referendum politics in urban Alberta, or about the NDP leadership of Naheed Nenshi. And well whaddya know. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I see posts like this daily on the Claude Code and Anthropic subreddits. It’s weird to hear all this talk of how Anthropic’s powerful AI will destroy humanity when the people who use it daily are like “This thing sucks now.”

Fuck this wooden-dummy-doll -cast-off from “The Boy” movie. “Surrender to R&ssia so this was can be over and can get credit for a peace deal.” He should be kicked in the ass and sent packing!

This is not what slop refers to. I'm not being purely academic about this. The conflation does matter. Because this is a type of conglation that people do to make any reasonable critique of "A.I." seem overwrought. "Oh they said the same thing about the internet!" And it is not true.

Primordial Platypus@perfectclarity.bsky.social

I'm in my early 40s and I definitely remember Wikipedia being treated *as the equivalent* of slop (i.e., untrustworthy) in my final high school/early college years. It took a couple of years to go from "don't use Wikipedia anyone can put anything there" to "use Wikipedia as a first step."

Macklemore has been on the right side of this issue for years. If Ed Sheeran drops him this mediocre-pop-loving-middle-aged white lady will be done with his ginger ass!

Literary fiction is coming. It is going to revolutionize the economy. We know that China has already got a start on literary fiction. We can’t afford to be left out of the literary fiction economy. Think of your kids. They might already be engaging with literary fiction.

Like... not to ruin anyone's fun, but fuck, y'all, what if that was your loved one who was murdered and folks were downloading a podcast about it to consume as entertainment? It's just weird.

Wow. I remember this piece of work scolding us for not buying California wine not too long ago.

I am in strong agreement with the President. Congress should immediately take up and pass a federal film tax incentive to bring back these good-paying jobs that we've lost to other countries.
