Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.
It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

I didn’t support Tedjo, cannot vote for someone endorsed by the police union. That said, it was time for a new leader, a new generation. I hope this is a positive change for the city.
#BREAKING: Alvin Tedjo has been elected as the mayor of Mississauga, the CP24-CTV Election Desk is projecting. Live updates:

How racist and desperate do you have to be to look at this and say, “Got ‘em!”?
The White House put an AI video of Hillary, Chuck, Hakeem, Kamala, and Ilan jamming out to The Gap Band’s “Outstanding” like a Tiny Desk concert and described Democrats as “washed up,” but damn they never looked cooler. Total self-own.

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

"Digital crimes must be dealt with like real life crimes." Canada, anyone?
In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

this ad is disgusting. every democrat should reject it and him bsky.app/profile/erin...
Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

At least $50 billion for another pipeline. $82 billion in new military spending in 5 years. $300 billion in corporate welfare and mega incentives at an investment summit. But the cupboard is bare for Parks Canada.
2,671 PSAC members at Parks Canada received notice this week that their positions may be cut. These cuts put our environment, natural and cultural heritage, parks, and national historic sites at risk. psacunion.ca/psac-raises-...

Another evil layer to this ad from Josh Turek: When he turns to say "stop the nonsense from both extremes," he opens with a clip of Rep. Becca Balint, the first openly gay woman to represent Vermont in congress and one of the few openly gay members of congress.

Really? There's nothing remotely "nasty" about El-Sayed's campaign, which offers a positive, upbeat, inclusive message. The nastiness resides entirely within the campaign of Mike Rogers. Indeed, "nastiness" isn't the word—it's brutal racism.

If you are a Union member, you should be fucking pissed. Don’t we already have a hard enough time with our employers which is the reason why we need these fucking unions in the first place now our own federal government wants to decide with the billionaires that own all of these companies
This is an outstanding review of Bill C-39's labour restrictions and how it's taking Canadian labour law backward, not forward, by @fwilson2.bsky.social: www.policyalternatives.ca/news-researc.... Also maps out a plan of action for unions to defeat it in practice. #canlab

Brexit was a successful influence operation run by the Russian intelligence services, and it has taken the British political world more than a decade to digest this simple fact. Now it's important to focus on the fact that Nigel Farage was little more than their willing agent in the process.
