Pebble devs - we're working on something big for you 👀The biggest change to the SDK since...forever.
Plugins: headless apps that provide data (eg weather, finance, traffic) or offer actions (home control, music, webhooks) to other apps, watchfaces and the Index agent.
Nano Stores finally has a website!
We've seen huge growth thanks to LLMs. Not having a site was embarrassing.

Check out the design: fresh and personal. Too many modern sites look the same. No React. Just Astro.

Allegedly, LLMs have enabled hobbyists to build and improve tons of "media management" tools in the last year that can populate these self-hosted servers.
You should not look up these tools, and certainly not set them up with friends.
if you're a moderately competent desktop computer user with the means to buy a few hard drives i think you have a duty to your iphone friends to become "the plex guy"
As always, @bell.bz hits the nail on the head:
"Let me make it clear: without people at the top of their game sharing their experience and knowledge [...] we are pulling up the ladders and committing our industry to stagnation and death."

I keep using some form of this metaphor when talking about why I believe in ML for lots of tasks, but I also think that LLMs are built on a false promise.

if you learn a skill or start a new hobby, it makes you a better person, not worse. nobody ever gets into calligraphy and immediately starts screeching that typefaces are useless and only the quill shall prosper. there is no "woodworking psychosis" nobody thinks they're dating their kettlebell
Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title:
A chief technology officer is worried about keeping his spreadsheets private.
Hello,
I recently came across your content, I love the way it mixes themes and ideas. Would you be open to a brand collaboration for a new app that teaches children how to smoke?

It's been two weeks since The Incident at Galley House launched, and I've written up a lengthy technical blog post about its development: eviltrout.com/blog/2026-07...
galley.house might be the best domain I've ever bought. It's just so short and easy to remember.
It also works as the.incident.at.galley.house but the rest of the team told me that was a bad URL.
(our awesome website was designed by @louis-andre.net)
We've been very excited for this Type Help remaster, and today is the day!
Check out Megan's review of The Incident at Galley House from @eviltrout.com and William Rous 👇
I made a website that lets you cut out old magazines from the internet archive (or any PDFs you own) and make collage art out of them:

I already know the story and gameplay will be amazing since it’s Type Help. So all that’s left to see is whether the UX will be amazing… and it’s Evil Trout. So my hopes are high for this one!
There are two ways to resolve the cognitive dissonance of being on Twitter while also caring about all the awful shit happening because of Twitter
1. Leave Twitter
2. Stop caring
Profoundly disappointing how many people I like seem to have chosen the latter
I get a lot of “but it’s business people making programmers do this” replies, implying that software engineers are innocent.
That’s the software engineers who stole the term “engineer” from another profession that has very strict certification requirements & mandatory ethics classes.
Hi, just because a software tells you it’s “reasoning” or “thinking” doesn’t mean it actually is.
You won’t believe this but programmers can make software lie about what it does.
Maybe programmers need more guardrails.
I'm no interface design pro*, but if you have a rotation button and a horizontal scale, shouldn't the first rotation you (from the default) do match the orientation of that scale?
*actually am
I'm working on a column about the tech annoyances that drive us crazy, and I want it to be as universal as possible, so tell me yours!
E.g. scanning a QR code to read a menu, never receiving the one-time passcode they supposedly texted you, "verify you're human" by IDing tiny motorcycles, etc.
Horror-watching someone at the library as they follow ChatGPT's instructions and apparently add their entire person drive as a git repo, committed to Github, where they gave random scammy apps full access to their account.
We made a fake repo with fake bounties, and the bots are applying fake PRs, so we know who is fake, and we can ban them from the Coolify repo.

One of the issues with mass LLM marketing is the rising layman mental model of "all computer code is prompt"
Like, here are my two lines of incantation, enter them into the results machine.
An icon I made 8+ years ago. I did *lots* of custom icons for that client, but this one is my favorite. If you've searched for medication names in Canada, you've probably seen it.
I hope that dizzy pal keeps on surviving more redesigns for a long time.

I'm at the "Use malware and keep it up to date" directive, it's going great.
A lot of people doing cocaine who have never done cocaine and are not aware they are doing cocaine but they definitely sayin' cocaine shit

Continuing my effort as an to be an informed hater, I gave in to pressure at work to start using AI coding tools to see what it is actually like. Already paid for by my company so my ethical concerns are moot anyway. After a month, my verdict:
I feel like I'm on cocaine
(derogatory) 🧵
One thing that AI evangelists seem to assume, particularly legal AI evangelists assume, is that the thinking and analysis is quick, and the writing is just tedious busywork that slows us down.
But the writing IS the thinking and analysis. You work out the thinking and analysis by writing it down.
For anyone who has the 2026 2nd gen Apple Studio Display (not XDR), does it work with macOS Sequoia (15.7.4)?
Please only reply if you can directly confirm that it works (or doesn’t).
(The specs say it requires macOS 26 but who knows if that’s true.)
