Important thread, and please read the position statement. Jackdaw is a health decision, not just an energy decison. It extends the UK’s reliance on burning fossil gas at a time when the health evidence on air pollution and the escalating climate health harms is clear.

Health for XR@healthxr.bsky.social

On 21 October the government approved gas production at the Jackdaw field. As health professionals, we regard this as a matter of patient safety. Jackdaw is a health decision, not only an energy decision. Our position statement 🧵

Jackdaw: a decision for last century. climateuncensored.com/jackdaw-a-de... A hastily drafted post following the UK Govt’s decision to approve further drilling & production at the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea. Please excuse typos, non-sequiturs, etc - I wanted to get the post online today.

As the Jackdaw and Rosebank decisions pop up again I'm going to repeat post this link. It's a helpful read.

I was asked by a colleague from my oil & gas days (who has remained in the industry) why UK producing its own gas is less acceptable to the Greens (& others) than importing it from America and West Africa.' The full question & my reply is now online at: climateuncensored.com/there-is-no-...

absolutely hate framing like this it's not a blow to "climate campaigners" in the way that a loss by a football team is a blow to their fans it's a blow to everyone who relies on a stable climate, breathable air and drinkable water climate chaos is a physical fact, it's not an issue of opinion

Another slow handclap for Exeter Labour, who continue their work of undoing active travel improvements in the city, by voting to spend £500,000 on making a strategic cycle route more dangerous for cyclists, in order for drivers to avoid a diversion of about 800m, (90 seconds at 20mph).

"Dear Diary, There were six by-elections in England and Scotland this week and Reform lost all of them. Two of them were seats we previously held. The problem with running councils is that people can see how useless we are."

Read the report. Try not to panic. Remember this was and is preventable.

The signal is clear: we're heading for a future warmer than the Paris Agreement goal of 1.5°C. What does this mean in practice? We break down "overshoot" into five key things to understand: www.unep.org/news-and-sto...

I wonder how many other people think “the speed limit isn’t really for me, it underestimates my skill” and just aren’t willing to say it out loud like this person

Dodgy number plates are a red flag to a criminal mind. The UK really needs to do two things. Make use of them a serious criminal offence rather than the £100 now. Make prosecution easy and a priority through the existing #opsnap portals. It's currently too difficult. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

What if every city that declared a #ClimateEmergency actually acted like it’s an emergency? What if every city that committed to #VisionZero actually acted like they meant it, prioritizing human lives in decision-making? What if every city’s budget actually reflect their approved plans & visions?

Instead of keeping hate and misinformation off our airwaves, Ofcom is allowing TalkTV to serve as a megaphone for dangerous, far-right rhetoric. We can’t let this stand, so we’re suing Ofcom. But we can only do it with your help: https://goodlaw.social/a9im

Just 4 months after the local elections, Reform UK (RefUK) have lost 158 of their local councillors: -55 resigned -42 went Independent -28 defected -24 were kicked out -5 lost their seats -2 disqualified -2 suspended. Appalling record - and a waste of taxpayers’ money!

That's one mean box!

Cargo bikes are just cars for local trips. Cars that don't require insurance, registration, gas, financing, or 90% of the maintenance costs. Are all those worth the ability to go on the highway every now and then?

Lanrick Bennett@lanrickbennett.bsky.social

If your elected municipal representative prioritizes making space for the “perceived convenience” of drivers behind the wheel of their cars, trucks or SUVs over the equity and safety of vulnerable road users; they are a active participant on the #WarOnWalking (which also includes rolling and riding)

This is a really helpful reply. Recommended reading.

<1% of drivers convicted of causing Death by Dangerous Driving receive a lifetime driving ban as part of their sentence. Should be 100% I.e. a mandatory part of sentence. Leaving it to the discretion of judges inevitably results in the vast majority not using the full extent of their powers.

I just think that risking your life at a moment's notice to save people you've never met in exchange for no money is a better expression of patriotism than dressing up like a Poundshop paramilitary and intimidating families with kids trying to get onto a ferry.

Will Norman@willnorman.co.uk

With over 870 school streets in London, 66% of kids are now getting to school by active travel. Every day there are 73,915 fewer cars doing the school run than when we started in 2016 - that’s the equivalent of a traffic jam from London to Newcastle.

No, the UNEP Overshoot report does not mean we give up. Accepting warming will pass 1.5°C doesn't mean there's no point to climate action. Farage, a man who was doing Cameo videos for £70 a pop as late as March 2026, apparently turned up to a meeting to discuss a half-million donation and "wasn't really listening". What utter contempt he has for the very democracy, country, and people that he claims to love.

Exactly this. Children and young people need independently mobility. This should include getting to school, but also around their neighbourhood, town or city. Blanket 20 mph can help with this.

The Exeter Cycling Camapign @exetercycling.bsky.social formed in 2016 and despite much hard campaigning we've seen precious little change delivered in Exeter. Where's the political will from our councillors to deliver real change? I'm so frustrated at the lack of vision from so called "leaders"

Spot the difference. We didn't 5x the Cycleways network in London overnight. It took vision, hard work, & the conviction to invest in green infrastructure - often in the face of vocal opposition. In 2016, we had 90km of Cycleways. Now we're at 450km. That's progress. And we're not stopping there.

On the one hand, some people want to make it so that kids and other people aren't crushed to death by cars. On the other hand, some people are upset that they might have to pay attention, slow down or be inconvenienced by about 15 seconds. So you can see how it's a "war on cars."
