in 2020 i awoke in a cold sweat with the realisation that the burger chain in Interstate '76 has the same name as the antagonist burger chain in Good Burger (1997), googled it, and stumbled upon someone's tripod site, which, blowing my own mind, i remembered visiting as a kid in like 1998.

My first 5 RPGs: 1. The Dark Eye (L’Oeil Noir in French) 2. MERP/Rolemaster 3. Cyberpunk 2020 4. Vampire: The Masquerade 5. Call of Cthulhu (it’s all quite hazy in the middle, there was some Amber and Star Wars somewhere too)

Ossi Hiekkala has a blog post about his illustration work in the recently released “Lands of RuneQuest: Sartar”. Lots of pretty paintings to gawk at (while waiting to receive the book), and some interesting anecdotes. Ossi’s art is frankly the number 1 reason for me to buy the book!

This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

I love TTRPGs and play at least twice a week. I used to also play a lot of video games when I was a kid, but now I barely play one or two a year. And that’s from someone who works on video games 😅

EA shutters BioWare and carves through other teams months after after Saudi-led buyout An internal email obtained by Vertical Slice states EA is also "bringing together" Respawn and DICE to work on a new shooter.

My gamedev hot take for a while has been “it was a mistake to go 3D”. We spend millions of $$ for shit like cloth physics and foot planting and rendering grass, which has no fucking incidence on a game except for a vague sense of “immersion” or whatever.

graphics beyond the ps4 were a mistake. none of this shit is sustainable anymore. every single Big Game costs one billion dollars to make and has to make 5 billion to be profitable and it also costs $100 nobody has and also needs to have an infinite postgame and also is forgotten in a week

Less than 12 weeks ago, EA was effectively purchased by Saudi Arabia and Donald Trump's son-in-law for $55B in a deal that saddled the company with around $20B in debt. 12 weeks. That's how long it took for them to shutter a decades-old studio in BioWare and deem people surplus to requirements.

Replying to @forbeck.com

This is them stripping the company for parts. In a better economy with anyone else investing in video game companies, they might try to sell Bioware. Instead, it's cheaper just to shut it down, people and legendary games be damned.

Another day, another company trying to extract more money out of our data. Today’s company: eBay! Go to your Account Settings and turn that shit off. Well, assuming that toggle actually does anything, because we’ll never know, right?

You ain't ready for the dungeon until you have either a Scrotomancer or Anomancer in your group. They really put the party in 'Adventuring Party.' We wanted to bring a Clitomancer, but the bard said he couldn't find one and assured us they were a myth.

"I know X is ethically bad but it benefits me and my friends so I'll use it" is the ethos that basically got the US to end up where it is now. I'm thinking of starting replacing "genAI" with "slavery" and see how that makes people sound.

I'll be honest, there is nothing more demoralizing to me than devs saying "I know AI is built on theft, and anti-labour, and harms the environment, but I'm going to use it anyway bc I don't believe individual choices matter". This is how a movement fails. www.molleindustria.org/blog/future-...

“Protestors Criticized For Looting Businesses Without Forming Private Equity Firm First”: A little classic from the Onion, which is relevant again for my fellow French people!

theonion.comProtestors Criticized For Looting Businesses Without Forming Private Equity Firm FirstMINNEAPOLIS—Calling for a more measured way to express opposition to police brutality, critics slammed demonstrators Thursday for recklessly looting businesses without forming a private equity firm first. “Look, we all have the right to protest, but that doesn’t mean you can just rush in and destroy any business without gathering a group of clandestine investors to purchase it at a severely reduced price and slowly bleed it to death,” said Facebook commenter Amy Mulrain, echoing the sentiments of detractors nationwide who blasted the demonstrators for not hiring a consultant group to take stock of a struggling company’s assets before plundering. “I understand that people are angry, but they shouldn’t just endanger businesses without even a thought to enriching themselves through leveraged buyouts and across-the-board terminations. It’s disgusting to put workers at risk by looting. You do it by chipping away at their health benefits and eventually laying them off. There’s a right way and wrong way to do this.” At press time, critics recommended that protestors hold law enforcement accountable by simply purchasing the Minneapolis police department from taxpayers.
