I walk, and draw and write badly. My hiking journals aren’t very interesting, but they’re very me.

#OnThisDay 899 Death of Alfred the Great who became king of the Anglo-Saxons on the death of his brother Æthelred (no, not that one). He defeated repeated Viking invasions (yes, those bastards again) & laid the foundations of modern England.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Vampires are inherently Catholic. Werewolves are inherently Protestant. Zombies are inherently Atheist. Thank you for coming to my presentation.

And with that- my part of - this journey ends as others continue onwards, with the support of the regular announcements I’m assured. Why drive if you could have such experiences? #chooseTrains

If robins were lads on a night out they’d be the kind who wore short sleeve shirts without a coat in minus two degree temperatures and stole supermarket trolleys for a laugh.

Tom Cox@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social

Once again we are arriving at that time of year when robins absolutely do not give a fuck about any of your opinions.

Danny Tommo's 'patriot platform' vigilantes were refused service in The George Inn, Portsmouth. They demanded to know why, despite the fact they do not have to be given a reason. Always make bigots feel unwelcome. Show the pub some love for doing the right thing. Things you love to see ✊❤️

I advise every tech manager to learn the phrase: "that's a tomorrow question. ask me then." for use in interactions with project managers when necessary.

I'm loving the replies to this. Give yourself a laugh and have a read.

Go on then, Bluesky, tell me the stupidest thing your dog has ever done. Mine decided earthworms were missing from his diet, and as part of his culinary experiment chose one that was still attached to a fishhook. The FIVE resulting surgeries cost me the price of a small car. Good boy, Baxter.

being a woman is crazy because you'll be minding your own business slightly hungover at the cafe and the whole time a man is writing a substack article in his head about what your frail, waif-like body indicates about society

American journalists: please tell us about the wonderful things you've done. British journaliats: why is this lying bastard lying to me?

using the 49-day measurement for a Truss, a Zacharia would be 0.143 Trusses

James Woodfield@jameswoodfield.bsky.social

What’s that in British Standard Trusses?

A reminder of how our music/age perceptions need updating -- a London council is offering a "day disco for over 55s" featuring music from 1950s, 60s and 70s But if you're 56 years old, most of that is your parents' music, not yours.

Well, Bread Week certainly proved a bit of a challenge for our bakers on this week’s #GBBO. But in baking, as in life, making mistakes is how we learn. Onwards and upwards!

The BBC can do a documentary about JKR’s “views on trans rights” as long as they blur her completely throughout, like a t-shirt.

because is/ought posting is in fine form on bluesky today, a pop quiz: as someone who works in software and had what seemed to be ironclad job security only a couple of years ago, do you think I want anything in this thread to be true

Huge respect for Caroline Lucas this week, repeatedly standing up to antisemitic entryism while remaining staunchly critical of Israel and the government's failures on that front. You can see why she used to be leader

I really enjoyed Paris Police 1900 on the BBC. The Commissioner was refreshingly honest when his wife shot his arch-enemy. In a British version he might’ve been horrified and disowned her but being French he didn’t… Or maybe it would have been less Ripper Street and more SAS Rogue Heroes?
