like seriously: you get a bacteria that likes no oxygen so it can live inside the cancer, but it needs to be able to survive when it gets to the edge, so you make it so it can do that, but then it would run amok before it got to the cancer so you make it turn on that ability ONLY WHEN IT HAS FRIENDS

My unfiltered response to reading the story about this is - science is just fucking awesome sometimes. scitechdaily.com/scientists-e...
🚨 BREAKTHROUGH: Canadian scientists at the University of Waterloo Dr. Brian Ingalls, Dr. Sara Sadr, and Dr. Marc Aucoin have engineered “tumor-eating” bacteria that can invade and consume cancerous tumors from within. A potential breakthrough in cancer treatment research.

We have to do this because the UCP banned electronic vote tabulators at the behest of it’s conspiracy-addled base. It’s almost like it was designed to reduce trust in the system.
The patient poll workers have to fold up and initial ten small pieces of paper for each individual voter. Then you have unfold ten tiny ballots and mark your choice on each one and fold it back up. And then you have to put each individual ballot in its own colour coded ballot box.
I really miss Twitter. Not X. Twitter. I miss the community and the reach and the way it felt like you could actually make a difference in some miniscule way. That's been gone for years. I lose respect every day one remains on X.
Quitting X is the easy bit, but Canada's leaders can't even do that www.nationalobserver.com/2026/10/14/o... by @maxfawcett.bsky.social via @nationalobserver.com Too many politicians seem to enjoy "X’s soup of misinformation, anti-immigrant hatred and foreign influence operations."

New Sprawlcast! Calgary city hall is trying to catch up on pedestrian safety while the Alberta government is threatening to rip out bike lanes. We look at all of this—and more.

Look, even if you hate infill, you should be absolutely CHILLED today. This is insane, harmful, & if this government had used the same move for something you love you’d have zero recourse. This wild abuse of power holds sobering realities. And it’s hard to shove the toothpaste back into the tube.

I try not to boost US politics too much on here, but this gave my brain a cramp. I've been saying for a couple years that the next US civil war will be against cities, and....oh boy...
Trump: "With the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay ... let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

“Alberta separatists have gone to D.C. offering fresh water and oil in exchange for American support – and Republican operatives have provided tactical assistance inside the province. Behind the cross-border effort to sway Alberta’s secession vote.” What’s the word for that?

How does one get a pass on treason? Asking for a friend
Oh wow In May, I reported Alberta separatists were using an app developed by GOP operatives with ties to US ambassador Pete Hoekstra @theglobeandmail.com now reports the same operatives flew to Calgary on a private jet for a secret meeting with separatist leaders: pressprogress.ca/alberta-sepa...

Listen: I don’t want to minimize the danger of high e-bike speeds. But if the problem here is that stores sell e-bikes that can drive faster than legal limits, then where’s the story about how literally *every car dealership has been doing the same thing for decades*?!?

Point 3 is important - We Keep Us Safe. We have a tactic that enables this, corking. It keeps us together as a unit and minimizes traffic disruption. This summer the Calgary Police have tried to prevent us from using this tactic. They say it is for safety but their words and actions say otherwise.

When explaining why we should not cork they have repeatedly told participants that if a driver was to step on their gas pedal while a group of cyclists were in front of them, it would be our fault. This is not a concern for cycling safety but a justification for violence against us.

- They did not cork at every intersection, leaving the mass vulnerable to drivers entering the ride. Participants still had to do emergency corking. - They left their spots early instead of waiting until the end of the mass. This left riders near the end vulnerable
