🚨New pre-print!🚨 Wonderful work led by my colleague Liz Davies, on a quite unique longitudinal RS-fMRI cohort of cannabis users and non-using controls (+ adult/teen groups). www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... Short thread. ⬇️

More ideas for Andy to raise to annoy the far right: - Joining the Euro (obvs). - All beer to be sold in 500ml or 250ml units. - All cricket grounds to be replaced with boules clubs. - All chip shops only allowed to serve modules frites. Come on Andy!

Likely the most important thing I've ever written — if you're an academic and the AI mania unsettles you, here's my best shot at presenting some intellectual tools that might help you articulate why. arxiv.org/abs/2610.27251
New conference paper on use of AI agents in fMRI contains at least one AI-hallucinated/non-existent reference (number 14). FFS. I mean, come on guys, even undergrads know to check their references these days. www.avestia.com/EECSS2026_Pr...

This is an astonishing @pubpeer.com post: pubpeer.com/publications... The author compares data points from a figure against random numbers produced with a certain seed, finding r > 0.999999996! 🫠 Could there be any possible innocent explanation? The paper: www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Hey kids. Ever wondered what a 'persistence homological scaffold' really is? If you're a psychologically healthy person, then probably not, but if (like me) you have the acquired psychic trauma caused by reading psychedelic neuroscience papers, then this post is for you! medium.com/@m.b.wall/wh...

Just the tiniest little man ever. Miniscule. Sub-atomic. Planck-scale.
Trump: "The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn't. This is an indelible stain on the country of Norway. We will not forget, Norway." (note how tepid the crowd response is to this whining)

I genuinely mean this. I cannot imagine a more bleak dystopian notion than the idea of all art being turned into slop designed to coddle my exact perceived intentions. The point of literature, film, music, and art is to be exposed to the interior lives of others. Who are these people.
maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

This is horrific. Govt funding for psychology, linguistics, archaeology and many other fields just... gone. Zero. Nada. Cancelled. YIKES.
NEW: In March the White House released an FY27 budget request that zeroed out the National Science Foundation's directorate of Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE). For months it was unclear what would happen. Now, with FY26 over, the damage to SBE is coming to light. My reporting:

This is true! I received a very apologetic email from a student once saying they couldn't afford the fee to download my paper. 💔 I was absolutely delighted to send her a free copy!
Have you ever tried to read a scientific journal article and been told “you don’t have access, pay to download this article?” Did you know that the author of that article gets $0 if you pay? Instead, you can email the author and ask for a free copy! I’d be delighted to help and answer questions!
