It would be grand, then, if the Government of Canada would terminate any use of X/Twitter. And don't say, "Oh, we need it to get our messages out," because then you are "caught in a situation where we are reliant on one provider."

Mark Carney on what Elon Musk's throttling of Starlink means for Canada: "We do not want to be caught in a situation where we are reliant on one provider that puts Canadians at risk or compromises our sovereignty, our ability to express our values and live our values."

You’ve had 4 years and haven’t fixed transit; housing isn’t more affordable and safety isn’t any better (and may be worse). We can’t afford another 4 years of Mark.

I’m ready to get right to work and keep moving Ottawa forward. In my first 30 days, I’ll take immediate action on affordability, transit and safety. Here's how.

City Hall's architect Raymond Moriyama believed the bells would serve as a symbol for local democracy, creating a "joyful sound" that "celebrates the coming together of diverse people with diverse interests for the common good.” Closing the bells down instead of maintaining them is, well, symbolic.

For me, Sutcliffe isn't my choice because after 4 years his frequent answer is "I'll get feds or province to fund that." They mostly haven't. Other cities do stuff on their own. I want a mayor who believes the city has the ability to act on its own.

We should be rightly critical and skeptical. We can’t afford another four years of Mark. ottawacitizen.com/opinion/sutc...

What the heck is happening on Ottawa's roads?!🚨 4 fatalities of vulnerable road users in 6 days. A driver rams into a bakery. 4 collisions involving serious injuries yesterday. And today, another pedestrian killed in Barrhaven. Am I the only candidate in this election talking about this? 1/

And if Mark had made infrastructure investment a priority, we might be able to withstand those storms better. Sure, some of this is legacy, but Marks push for 2.5% taxes is the same as predecessors like Watson and crew who undermined our future. Can we afford more of this?

Airport security: "You've been randomly selected for additional screening." Me: *barely suppresses laughter AC (angry): "Is something funny?" How do I explain that I *always* get selected "randomly" for additional screening? One time, I was "randomly" selected twice in the same line.

I will say the rank cynicism of Smith demanding more provincial control over immigration when she was one of the premiers who begged for higher immigration targets just over 2 years ago is a lot to take. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

more results on all questions coming in for the AB referendum. Provincial control on immigration and proof of citizenship to vote is proving popular. Opt-ing out of federal programs and federal judge selection is not. Separation is resoundingly being rejected. 🇨🇦

In the last 4 years: are your pool waiting times better? Is your library open longer hours? Is your commute better? Transit? How’s that working? These have all gotten worse in the last 4y; if you want that to stay the same, re-elect Mark.

Seconded. Many of these acts are quite minor in themselves, so drivers really don’t get why people (like me sometimes) react badly. What’s the big deal, right? When it’s the third time *today,* or something that happens two days out of three at this particular corner, it gets to be a big deal.

Daniel Munro@dkmunro.bsky.social

Thing is, that’s not an exception. Every day on my run, I wait for Ottawa drivers to speed through red lights, dodge (with school kids) illegal turns past crossing guards, wait at “optional” stop signs until there are no cars, etc. If I simply followed signals, I’d be dead twice a week.

As a reminder, the entire reason this specific bike lane is somehow under the purview of the Provincial Government is because our moron Premier has to pass it on his way to his job (on the rare days he goes to work) and the sight of a cyclist passing his SUV in traffic makes his blood BOIL

77% on-time bus performance might sound reasonable until you realize that nearly all of the *not* on time performance occurs during morning & evening commutes when people actually use the bus. I don’t care if my route performs at 100% at 1am. Work starts at 8:30am. www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/artic...

Because he believes (IMHO) in consulting the public, determining the needs and then developing a budget to suit. Say you’re going to put a new roof on your house: a smart person determines the needs/value (cheap shingles, good ones, metal, slate etc) and then budgets accordingly. Current model 1/

After 12 years on City Council and more than 15 months into his campaign for mayor, Jeff Leiper knows how Ottawa’s budget works. So why is he still keeping his planned property tax increases a secret from Ottawa residents?

Another day, another watermain break (Riverside/Vanier Parkway at Tremblay) in Ottawa. Leiper has an actual plan for addressing this shortfall from years of Watson and Sutcliffe underfunding rather than handwaving and hoping the province and feds save our ass.

As transit gets worse it becomes less and less salient to the average person and so the pressure to make it good only diminishes. And you get a death spiral....

We have one car, both by choice and for budgetary reasons. But boy, it sure feels like OC Transpo and the city of Ottawa actively discourage anyone from relying on their system, with constant kicks in the shins like this. It is enraging.
