Plenty of space for more controls, I’d say. 🤔

UI experimentation mode engaged. 🫡 Yes, it’s busy, but I really needed to try and do things The Apple Way, rather than having to maintain lots of custom code. There’s only one of me after all. Very, very, early days though.

Been doing more typings.

Retrospecs v4 will be a thing then I guess. Probably. 🤔 It’s not quite at the beta stage yet, but it’s up and running using the reworked engine that I’ve been slowly picking away at on and off over the last year or so.

Hmm… I'm becoming increasingly tempted to pull the plug on a potential 1.0 release any time soon. There's things I want the app to be able to do that don't fit within the current semi-flexible pipeline approach, and it would be painful to put out a release and have to maintain compatibility.

Hmm… I suppose I need to decide whether to release @pixel-processor.bsky.social in the macOS App Store. There's additional assets and prep required, and based on my inability to generate any interest, I suspect sales would be at or close to zero if you had to pay for it. Or indeed if it was free. 🤔

An in-development macOS pixel processing app. Supports Ventura and up. Grab the current TestFlight beta via pixelprocessor.co.uk * The icon is temporary. * The UI is very much a work in progress. * Future functionality is still to be determined. Thoughts and feedback very much appreciated. 🙏

Doing more typings of late - trying to move towards a 1.0 release, although there’s still lots to do. It’s fair to say that it’ll always be a (very, very) niche app, but hopefully it’ll be useful to some

If you use macOS and like pixels, be sure to check it out. Feel free to share to try and help get the word out - it’s a very uphill battle in this day and age.

Beta seven is now available. I think this is the first version of Pixel Processor where it feels like it’s becoming its own thing rather than just an increasingly elaborate test bench for potential future Retrospecs functionality. Grab the TestFlight via pixelprocessor.co.uk

The fate of Pixel Processor will soon become evident - I think it would take an awful lot of energy to get any kind of uptick in interest, and that’s something I sadly don’t have. Still, it’s not far away from being complete enough for the macOS App Store, even if that’s only in its current form.

Next up is bug fixing and tidy-ups. So… err… yeah. That’s exciting? 🤔

I mean, sure, I’d ideally not have a chronic illness, but on the upside, I can see the future now. I’d have preferred a different special ability, but that’s not how The Assignment works.

Hot new tip in from one of my insiders on the street. There’s a plucky ‘lil startup goes by the name of CompuServe that are going to be BIG with a capital T. Just remember where you heard it first.

Idea: Point and click game about a detective investigating the suspicious death of a food standards inspector caught up in a web of lies and intrigue. The Wurst Case Scenario. (You can have that for free.)

Ooo… reet posh. If you've a mac running Sequoia or newer, you can also grab the current TestFlight beta over on… pixelprocessor.co.uk

The initial beta is actually a few weeks old - recently I've focused on palette and character set importers. Having spent lots of time manually tweaking font images into a format Retrospecs could parse, I wanted to create an importer that was flexible enough to handle most situations.

I guess this happened then. 🤔

So… it's been a while. Must confess I didn't think there'd be the best part of four years since the last beta release, but there you go. The icon is temporary, the palette and character set editors are very basic and there's lots of missing functionality. testflight.apple.com/join/cSEDna6C

Knew I was hanging on to that domain name for a reason. Not quite sure sales would cover the renewal fees for the last four years though. 😬

One side effect of the work on the underlying engine used within Retrospecs is that the Pixel Processor macOS app has lurched back into life to act as a testbed. At some point it might even see a release. Maybe. 🤔

GOLD TEETH has launched! It's a piratical TTRPG set in a cursed version of the Age of Sail, with 350 pages of briny phantasmagoria, colonial terror and nauseating seafood. It's part Master & Commander, part Blackadder, left to ripen in the sun like a beached porpoise. teethrpg.itch.io/gold-teeth

Retrospecs first appeared in the App Store twelve years ago today, which is a long time by anyone’s standards. There’s not been much in the way of new features recently, but I’ve been slowly working away on some bits and pieces. Here’s a sneak preview of what’s coming later this year.

Condemning riots isn't enough. We need policy action, including an immediate appraisal of X as a vehicle for coordinating far-right disorder. And we need political leadership, to challenge white nationalism as an idea, not to validate it daily and then complain when it turns violent.

I’ve been gradually working away on a re-write of the “engine” that generates the image conversions in Retrospecs, and that work is now largely complete. Whilst the original goal was purely to replicate the existing functionality, there’s also some new bits and pieces to play with. So that’s nice.

Finally giving into the inevitable macOS Tahoe install. I remember in the old days, when a new OS release was something to look forward to, rather than regret.
