Among things Meta did in Brazil was have their AI bot within WhatsApp allow users to generate election poster for Flavio but deny requests to do so for Lula. When folks asked for posters for invented candidates, AI tagged them with #22 - Flavio's # - in a country where folks vote by #.

In a joint letter to Mark Zuckerberg, ranking members of the House Oversight and Judiciary committees wrote “corporate censorship of political speech raise[s] serious concerns about Meta’s dedication to ensuring free and fair elections.”

I know that the climate stuff is all very abstract for a lot of people, especially when maybe "AI" will destroy (or save) the world first, but that this is what so many Silicon Valley people I know who were previously pretty climate-conscious have given up over makes me very, very mad

NEW: buried in anthropic's hefty ipo documents released yesterday is an interesting admission: the company's increasing reliance on dirty gas to power its data centers is actually exposing it to financial risk wrote about it for @wired.com www.wired.com/story/anthro...

The fact that the Israeli opposition could chart a course away from the genocidal fascist who has ruined their country’s reputation worldwide - but only if they consent to see Palestinians as equals, with all the changing policies that implies - is a pretty good metaphor for the future of Israel.

Yair Wallach@yairwallach.bsky.social

Update, In a surprising upset, Likud will remain the largest party, ahead of Eisenkot. However, the current coalition is far from a majority, with 40% of Knesset seats. The opposition has about 60% of the Knesset. Will they be able to translate this majority to a coalition government?

However important the differences between the current Israeli government and the next, they are not as important as the key similarity: both believe in upholding a system of apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and genocide — the very system that makes democracy in Israel categorically impossible.

Jesse Myerson@jessemyerson.bsky.social

Nadler hopes Eisenkot will form a coalition government with the so-called Arab Parties, but Eisenkot has taken that option off the table. So ok, I hope the Joint List wins an outright majority, but too bad we’re talking about an actual polity and the actual politicians vying to lead it.

Dan Goldman, determined genocide denialist until the bitter end, implies he lost his very Jewish district to fellow Jewish politician Brad Lander, because of “anti-Jewish fire,” which he accuses Jewish commentator Ben Rhodes of stoking.

Talafreako is such a cool name, I'm jealous

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

a heavily slurring Trump lies his ass off: "Not only did Talafreako state that God is transgender, he actually said that if Jesus Christ himself came and visited the Texas legislature, Jesus would be promoting sex changes for little children."

This whole story is infurating, but this first quote from someone at OpenAI is really making me see red. "The newer version won't do this": a) why the fuck should we believe you and b) even if so, that has fuck-all to do with OpenAI's culpability here. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/27/w...

henry.codesIt doesn’t matter if it worksUltimately, whether LLMs "work" as a technology or not doesn't matter. The widespread adoption and deployment should be regarded firstly as a threat to the labor force.
Erin Kissane@kissane.myatproto.social

My hottest AI take is that the executive class is petrified of labor and saw that whatever else LLMs are/aren't, they're fine labor-smashers + that a ton of ordinary people find the artificial hyper-complexity and scamminess of modern life and work so unbearable that they'll throw a god-box at it.

Yes, the point of the embargo and sanctions is to pressure Israelis to elect leaders who will adopt different policies. Unfortunately none of the potential prime ministerial candidates support adopting different policies.

Hen Mazzig@henmazzig.bsky.social

But I thought the point of the embargo and sanctions was to pressure Israelis to elect leaders who would adopt different policies? It sounds like Congresswoman Tlaib doesn't think Israel should exist at all.
