I mean, you did like a pretty transphobic tweet telling trans people to calm down because it's just sports. I don't think that warrants a rabid, anti-trans label but it is something you did. Not really familiar with you otherwise to have a broader opinion!

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

So sick of this insane reasoning. If you think Talarico, the most famous Christian Democrat who wears his faith on his sleeve, is bald-face lying to hoodwink the electorate, I think you are a dumbass eager to excuse poor judgement and bigotry.

Fascism Heckler@fascismheckler.bsky.social

In the case of Talarico: 1. he's running in Texas. Disappointing BUT he's not running in a Blue state like New York which would be disqualifying 2. He has a record of being pro-trans rights via his votes suggesting he's currently lying 3. The party itself won't allow any anti-trans bills to pass.

People like this asshole deserve to be shouted and shamed out of polite society. What a disgusting way to talk to a minority group you are not a part of.

"My views haven't changed" yes, that's the fucking problem, Joanne! It's true for anyone born in the last 200 years - you can be a vanguard of progressivism in your 20s, but if your beliefs don't evolve as time goes on you'll be a conservative by the time you hit your 50s. This would be bad enough, but we are beyond even this now. We have entire blue states enacting anti-trans policy, and entire State Democratic Parties censoring their LGBTQ+ caucus from criticizing candidates on trans issues.

If you would try to win by abandoning trans people (or any targeted group) you can save this “we need to win” talk; there is no “we.” I am about solidarity, and you have chosen anti-solidarity. You are not any “we” I recognize. You are the enemy I’m trying to defeat. Beating you is how my “we” wins.

Ok but she's objectively right. M4A is superior to our current system and would have helped Talarico immensely. You don't need to run as a socialist to run on M4A unless you think everyone that supports Medicare is a socialist. You're just taking weird potshots for no reason

If you're a Dem who thinks you'll gain something by going anti-trans, look at Gallup's "most important problem" and Fox News' "most important issue" polling and see where trans issues rank. Whoever told you going anti-trans is a savvy or necessary move spends too much time on X and should be fired.

"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."

Adam Bonin@adambonin.bsky.social

Incredibly disappointing ad from Mary Peltola (D-AK) saying she neither supports "kids getting surgeries to change genders or men in girls bathrooms." Yes, flipping the Senate is essential and can stop bad laws and bad judges from happening, but she can do it without my support from the lower 48.

Ned Resnikoff@resnikoff.bsky.social

Setting aside the actual merits of what Piker is saying, here's a guy who clearly wants to be a political kingmaker for the DSA left whose main talent is going on camera to say things that DSA candidates will need to disavow a couple days later.

I know this is going to blow some peoples' minds, but Hasan said what he said because he was asked a question and he responded with what he sincerely believes. I know the concept is foreign to people familiar with modern politics but it's the truth. And he's right.

This is a powerful story from a trans Texan (who's also quite a talented independent journalist). I've been arguing that trans people have the right to be upset with Talarico, and I think we do. This is the case for vote for him anyway, eloquently made, and by someone with the standing to make it.

This, right here! Both voting for these Democrats and abstaining from voting for them has significant risks and instead of spending their time yelling at us (and never at the politicians doing transphobia), cis people should maybe grapple with the fact that they've put us in a no-win situation.

People can make their own choices, but what I am advocating for in this thread is that people should use their time and clout to write to these candidates and pressure them rather than to spend their time dropping shade on angry trans people

Drop your support for trans people and you lose my vote. Simple as.

An increasing number of Democratic leaders have begun to push back against their party’s unflinching support for the transgender community this midterm season. The shift comes after years of Republican-backed attacks against Democrats on the issue of transgender athletes.
