an anti-society and, ultimately, an anti-humanity viewpoint

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

I have said it before, and I will say it again: the UK countryside is full of interdimensional portals. All you have to do is keep your eyes open and look carefully for them... tomcox.substack.com/p/20-of-the-...

Sen. Ossoff: You see what we have right here is the Washington establishment. Congress is full of congressmen's sons who are only in Congress because their daddies were congressmen just like Mike Collins who are perfectly happy to send other people's children to die in a war.

BART just set a new post-pandemic record for Saturday ridership! We carried 172,035 trips on Saturday with Embarcadero Station seeing an 80% increase in riders compared to the previous week thanks to the Fleet Week air shows. Thread ⬇️

What’s the evidence on rent control? I charted the findings from 112 studies: Great for rent-controlled tenants ✅ But: Pushes up rents for other people ❌ Pushes down new housing construction ❌ Pushes down building quality ❌

we could solve the western water crisis overnight by simply charging alfalfa farmers market rates for water

A New Reconstruction@burleyzack.bsky.social

40m people rely on the Colorado River, which year after year shows less water in it. Denver Water has declared drought conditions and restricts residential use. You’re saying we shouldn’t care about the new water use equal to 16000 people? www.governing.com/finance/denv...

I mean hell yeah I am, the death of the monoculture rules. I have voluntarily opted out of listening to popular charting music because I want to listen to stuff I like!

ex-Lethality Jane@lethalityjane.bsky.social

"Well I don't have a TV or a radio so it's not surprising I haven't heard the song" You live in a bubble. What you're describing is a self-curated bubble. If you haven't heard the song that's been #1 on the charts for 23 weeks, you live in a bubble and you should probably be aware of that.

Some poptimists not only want pop music to be taken seriously by critics (which I agree with, critics should be doing that!) but that we all must cheer on the same pop music. Leave me alone!

Estrangements aren't uncommon, and there's SOME polling suggesting they might be increasing (which does not an epidemic make), but there's no data showing that they're largely unjustified, and certainly no robust evidence that therapists, en masse, are causing them

I'm sorry but this is hilarious. Trump's approval for the economy has gone so low it actually broke the scale on the Ipsos graph

Wrong. This is an ag policy problem. Residential water use is a pittance compared to the water resource demands of the cattle industry.

Snowden St.@snowden.st

Folks are welcome to try and prove it otherwise, but "free migration within the country" and "barely managed water policy, especially in the light of climate change" are inherently in a kind of conflict.

Congress makes $174K a year??? Insane. Cut them all to $100K and we could save almost 0.0005% of federal spending

Ricky Davila@therickydavila.bsky.social

It’s insane that people in Congress are paid over $174K a year in taxpayer dollars whilst making millions of dollars from insider trading whilst getting 18 vacations a year as Americans all over the country struggle to pay for rent, gas and groceries.

obviously not the biggest issue here, but I would rather sit through a hundred consecutive HR training sessions than spend one second in rural America

@NewsJennifer (Jennifer Schulze)@newsjennifer.bsky.social

I see the NYT is still platforming 'dei crushed white men' bullsh*t. Here it's buried in a 'why rural themed pop culture' is so popular in a piece written by a Princeton grad who lives in New York City. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/13/o...

NY Fed: Recent data suggests "firms are continuing to adapt and change due to AI use, but not by eliminating vast numbers of jobs. Instead, this new technology is reshaping work itself, with firms investing in their existing workforces rather than replacing large swaths of people."

in fairness, i can see why N. Biggar might want a little leeway here specifically

A Scottish Tory peer has spoken out in defence of using the N-word. Nigel Biggar argued in a blogpost that it is 'stupidly unjust' for people to be punished for using the N-word if they did not mean it in a racist way. Read more: www.thenational.scot/news/2...

I feel like most polls got pretty close to what his actual performance ended up being. He got some independents to vote for him because a ton of people were pissed off about Bass. There's no evidence he can repeat that performance just wherever, especially while running for POTUS lol

Folks you can think whatever you want about Spencer Pratt but he came within 3 points of making it to the runoff as a registered R in deep blue LA w/ no political experience which is far better than any analyst I spoke to expected. Happy Friday ✌🏻

I know it's physically feasible, but there's something vaguely threatening about a Premier Protein shake having 30 g of protein in just 11 fl oz of liquid. What else is even fucking in there???

Air travel is also objectively safer these days. Yes, it was funny to meme about "Trump take plane," but it's just true. Flying is WAY safer now than it was 40 years ago

this number seems to come from an analysis done by an AI-powered "hiring innovation" company, measures 7,984 job openings in specific service sectors, and the chosen time period compares the very hot 2022 job market with the slower 2026 job market

FinTwitter@fintwitter.bsky.social

ENTRY-LEVEL JOBS ARE VANISHING: NO-EXPERIENCE HIRING PLUNGES 73% IN JUST 4 YEARS

also, the 73% refers specifically to listings that explicitly welcome applicants with zero experience, not "entry-level jobs" as a whole. not very meaningful imo! not to say the job market is perfect but this isn't a particularly useful measure of it
