I don't like the blanket vilifying of small business owners. I have worked with some absolutely amazing clients, especially in the days when I was charging far too little for freelance work. It's important to set expectations and limits. Maybe I was just lucky, but there are good people out there.

For many designers, however, this would mean that their managers begin provide far more details about what they actually want, and lower their bar for expectations while raising their opinion of the worker 🫠
Shoutout to managers who've had their brain so pickled by LLMs that they don't—or do—realize they're treating their human subordinates like Agents 🫠

Numerous studies, including from the FBI itself, show that invasive mass surveillance tech like Flock and Axon's automatic license plate readers don't help police fight crime. Surveillance is not safety.
Okay no. No no no no no no no no no. WHY are we rebranding Vote Blue No Matter Who right now? WHY are we saying "we need to be against fascism" when the reason we have that fascism is because everyone is too scared to say affordability? This is just going to repeat the cycle. I hate it here.
Our job over the next two months is building a tent big enough to include everyone against fascism.

Today on Volts: data centers are typically seen as large, inflexible loads that grids have to build around, which is why it takes them so long to connect to the grid. Emerald AI makes a data center's compute, & thus its power demand, flexible & controllable. I talk with the CEO about how it works.

this hypothesizing about a more "fully automated" near-future, this positing of "creating new jobs" as the answer to existing jobs no longer being necessary betrays that the logic of labor relations is fundamentally not about necessity: it is something that must be *perpetually kept necessary*
we conjure new jobs so we can continue to gate access to homes, food, electricity, healthcare &c behind either finding employer(s) to sell enough of one's time to to be allowed to live, or depending upon someone who has found such an arrangement, thus being subject to their often-tyrannical whims

We really have to understand that decades of being told "Turn off the water when you're brushing your teeth!" was kinda bullshit. Folks we are failing to comprehend the SHEER VOLUME of water agriculture uses. ALL urban water use in the CO basin? Is ~1/3 of what the farms there use.
