Whatever drove the change from last round to this round, it is such a relief that the Brazilian government/court effort to punish Jair Bolsonaro for fomenting a J6-event did not go to waste.
One benefit of holding leaders accountable for crimes is that if Flávio Bolsonaro tries to overturn this election, he knows exactly where he’d end up. In prison, next to his father.

This thread comes to a close... ... as we now have a final result. Let the records show that, with 92% of the vote countywide, Lula is up 3.3%. (Can he end up doubling his 2022 margin?)
Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

The soaring costs of public universities is a political decision. When these schools predominantly served white students, they tended to be free (UC, CCNY, etc.) But as the number of students of color has increased, funding for the public universities has decreased. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/b...

That it'll fail because they lack sufficient consolidation and centralized control does not make it trivial that the president of the United States is trying to steal elections and produce an illegitimate sham Congress. It is open rebellion against the Constitution and morally tantamount to treason.

question for brooks: what if they are, literally, nazis?
"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
I spent a year watching school administrators do their jobs—and interviewing the students most impacted. I spoke to @thecut.com in a long-form Q&A about what I saw. Mainly, a system designed to protect perpetrators and punish victims in each and every case.

U.S. forces are retreating. That's what this means. "Pulled out and returned to their home stations in the U.S. as potential Iranian threats raise base security concerns" is a fancy way of saying the Iranian military has the U.S. military in retreat. This is unbelievably embarrassing.
WATCH: All U.S. bombers deployed to RAF Fairford in England have been pulled out and returned to their home stations in the United States as potential Iranian threats raise base security concerns across Europe. Read more about the withdrawal and threats here: www.stripes.com/branches/air...
"That why they're going to hell" -- the old man's still an artist with a Thompson
“Think of it, The New York Times DOCTORED the picture of the beautiful exterior facade of Doral, in Miami, trying to make it look as bad as possible. These people are STONE COLD LOSERS — Totally dishonest. That's why they're going TO HELL, and their subscription numbers are way down!”

To wit: it’s not a “fever” if it never breaks! That is, the ‘fever’ metaphor was only ever attractive because it entailed a radicalized GOP reverting/changing through almost no political effort by Democrats. This is a legitimate political movement, and to that exact extent, it has to be defeated.
There are two obvious caveats: 1) Dems may not win that many seats; and 2) Betting AGAINST the fever breaking has been the smart bet in every election since the beginning of the Obama era. www.offmessage.net/p/donald-tru...

What's funny about this is that @whstancil.bsky.social thinks it shows that people have been brain poisoned by social media in their antipathy towards the economy and anxiety about the future. Don't these people know that cable was way worse than streaming and median wages actually rose in 2021?
