Sometimes, when I'm in the right mood, I make video games and art. Or something. Made Celeste with friends, working on City of None and Jumper at EXOK. www.noelberry.ca

for this prototype I need jump heights to be very precisely tuned. The main constraint is that the maximum is just over 3 tiles (3 tiles + 2 pixels to be exact) and the minimum is just over 1 tile (a wider range was okay here, anywhere 2-4 pixels above)

trying to make things kinda generic so I can combine different systems. here the "pully" event can listen to what "percent" something is and move other objects based on that. and then I have an "attachment" event to tie objects so they move together.

originally the pully stuff was for hitting gears to open doors but it just worked for this as well haha (which is why it has a "Chain" bool, for if it should draw a pully gear + chain like it does on this block)

I'll probably add a mode or something later for different styles of pully ... like if it should have a gear+chain, or if it should draw the path the thing being pulled will move, etc.

so now these 2 objects that were used for previously unrelated things (the drill trigger for opening a door, and the block for... well, being a block) and I made them into a launcher without additional code... fun!

really feels like the NDP weren't offering anything to their base other than "it'll be bad if we don't win this election we forced during another election" and that clearly is not an inspiring message that makes people want to show up :/

One Chart That Explains The 2026 B.C. Election

no matter how valid it is that the cons are fucking terrible you can't expect people to turn out for that. you need a positive message that inspires ppl to actually vote for you. idk just very over the "vote for us or it'll be bad!" messaging these so called leftists have been doing my entire life

and now we get to face healthcare cuts and privatization and who knows what else for 4 years because the NDP refused to actually work with the Greens they had already in office, or put forward an actually inspiring reason to vote for them.

we don’t use generative AI, have hand drawn 2D animated sprites, AND our game is coded by a bearded canadian guy with glasses so you be the judge of that

Tower of Gold is coming November 1st! 🎉 It's a massive puzzle/action game with a first-person overworld full of characters and mysteries. I'll release a trailer alongside the game, but here's a small teaser in the meantime! #indiegames #indiedev

I am glad it's up (by quite a bit compared to 2022!) but 43% turnout is still so bad, especially when I think municipal elections can impact your day-to-day more than federal politics.

Hahahaha get fucked Ken Sim. Love seeing Sean Orr at the top of the councilor votes. I don't think I've seen an election ever go this good in my entire life

okay but hypothetically, if there were any studios in the vancouver area that wanted to hire a designer who was involved in TWO incredibly acclaimed games over the past year--

one thing you learn from making a lot of things is that the nitty gritty details, the millions of tiny invisible decisions, ARE the art. The "higher level ideas" are not nearly as important or interesting

Freya Holmér@freya.bsky.social

"AI lets you focus on the higher level ideas!!" because we all grew up dreaming of becoming managers and CEOs we all know the real artists at the very highest level are the shareholders, famously full of amazing ideas

his name is lethargic. he's an IRC chatbot I wrote in 2011 and has been through IRC, skype, and is now on discord (in private servers with friends.) the algorithm has been unchanged since the beginning.

BC has a new time zone abbreviation: PCT. PCT stands for Pacific Time, BC’s single year-round time zone. It replaces PST and PDT, providing a consistent way to refer to BC’s time zone in schedules, systems and communications. No falling back this November.

i guess i didn't realize how bad this had gotten? like if I want to fully control a soundbar i just bought i need to give it wifi permissions and log into samsung cloud. wtf

like if i have a heatpump ac thing I shouldn't be required to use samsung smartthings to control it (which will 100% sell my usage data etc etc)

alright I set up KeePassXC and Syncthing which seems to be ideal for me. So far so good!

Noel Berry@noelfb.bsky.social

as someone who has been using 1Password for almost 10 years, what can I switch to that is ideally self-hosted/open source? tired of dealing with shitty companies that host my data.

I've already been using Syncthing to sync all my photos off my phone (instead of google photos) which has been really convenient. so this felt pretty easy to set up.
