I know folks get real mad when I say this but in times of widespread security crisis, static sites sure are nice

Trump’s midterms closing argument

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"

If we are having a color revolution, would someone please let me know what the color is? I would like to get appropriate clothes and they might be harder to find once we are revolting.

Renee DiResta@noupside.bsky.social

I need to issue a correction. DataRepublican is now just a midwit, not a “govt-paid midwit” as I said. She resigned from her Dept of War job on Oct 2. She is now free to accuse random people of launching Color Revolutions. Do read the replies.

I really only have shades of Blue, Grey and Green at the moment, mens clothing colors are terribly drab. Not sure they really scream "Revolution".

I see we're having a debate about whether it's okay to go back to "X," the site owned by a trillionaire fascist who is currently bankrolling the GOP's midterm, throttled Ukraine's war effort, and still winkingly allows vast amounts of CSAM on his service Answer: No, what the fuck is wrong with you

In saner times, we would consider an American who graduated from a US law school and then spent the only practical part of her career practicing for an undisclosed employer in Beijing as "having been developed as a Chinese asset and should in no circumstances be permitted in the White House." But...

Kathryn Tewson@kathryntewson.bsky.social

And sure enough, that’s exactly the claim made! Right there in black and white, along with the claim that she practiced law in Beijing.

Very interesting that we went to the trouble of removing and repatriating these Iranians (generally good) but will murder anyone on a boat that we think has drugs on it in the Caribbean (bad).

Crew members were safely removed prior to destruction of the dhow. Repatriation efforts are ongoing.

Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.

For the love of God, stop saying this regime's ruthless authoritarianism "raises questions" and start telling us what answers you have for us. If you can't do that, get the fuck out of the way.

Amy Klobuchar@amyklobuchar.com

The timing of this raid and reports that a White House official was involved raise serious questions that should concern all Americans, regardless of political party.

This story makes it sound like the major problem is that the Trump Admin did this w/in 60 days of an election. Yes, that's a real abuse. But the major problem is they're basically threatening to denaturalize an opposition legislator, based on racist insinuations. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/u...

nytimes.comFederal Agents Search Home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (Gift Article)The search takes place within the 60-day window of the midterm elections, when the Justice Department has historically avoided such investigative steps related to political candidates.

I'm 100% in favor of blowing things up in Russia, but as a person who makes their living making technology work in the cloud, I don't love the evolution data centers getting blown up. It's not surprising, but if you work in cloud technology you better have a plan for regional failover.

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

If you lose power during Hurricane Isaias and use a portable generator, remember to run it at least 20 feet away from your home. Never run a generator indoors. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas you can't see or smell and it can kill in minutes.

Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵

We already had our flight for Thanksgiving changed to a different flight, presumably so they could cancel our original flight.

Airlines might cut cheaper flights and increase prices as fuel prices soar, executives say. Here's what we know. (AP Photo)

We don't need special regulations for the AI industry, OpenAI should be sued into oblivion under the CFAA for the attack on Hugging Face. Humans built and deployed software that attacked a secure system to achieve a set of instructions that the engineers at OpenAI gave it.

The fact that they wrote code they couldn't control, placed it in a weak sandbox, and failed to monitor it doesn't make it a super intelligent AI problem, it makes it an adults with consequences for their actions problem.

This is what happens when Product Managers don't write clear acceptance criteria like "product must not impede emergency responders" which I feel like we have enough experience with autonomous cars at this point that we can know we need to include that.

Getting more productive shouldn't mean that most companies produce 10x the amount of software, it's that they get 10x as ambitious on what they produce. "What have we not built for the last 5 years because it was too hard?" Is the question Product Management and engineering should be asking.

Jeremy Morrell@jeremymorrell.dev

A big AI objection around coding has been "If it increases productivity so much, where's all the new software!?" While I'm not sure it's filtered down into consumer-facing stuff quite yet, I feel just inundated with new, ambitious software on a daily basis these days

Got a message for the Russian government on Ukrainian Independence Day? I’ll write it on one of the 500 blue and yellow balloons we are delivering to the embassy in Washington tomorrow!

Benjamin Wittes@benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org

There has been a request to “sponsor a balloon” at this event tomorrow. So here’s what we’re gonna do: Anyone who donates to the #GreekChorusFoundation between now and the event can have a message written on a balloon by me. Email me the receipt of your contribution and your message!
