This week's theme is "It's early voting season, so go vote already," at #FightFascismFriday with @indivisiblelasvegas.org in downtown Las Vegas. Despite the fabulous weather, it felt a little slow today. So, if you're dragging a bit, you have our permission to practice some self care.

At the same time, we have work to do. Take a deep breath, stand tall, go vote, and do your part to preserve democracy. Hopefully, the next #FightFascismFriday will give us cause to celebrate.

For the life of me, I don't understand how we ended up on this timeline. However, ... yeah. (Can someone explain to me what happened?)

Stand with Zelensky and against Putin. Stand with Pope Leo XIV and against ICE. Stand with No Kings and against Meta. Stand with the people and against the oligarchs. Stand with liberal democracy and against Trump.

Today was the first day of early voting in Nevada. It was also the designated day for the fourth #nokings rally. Not coincidentally, today's theme was "vote early". I was at one of eight rallies @indivisiblelasvegas.org planned near (but not too near) early voting sites around southern Nevada.

For the first time in my life, my concerns over shenanigans by the members of one particular political party have driven me to vote on the first day of early voting. We're encouraging others to do the same so that in case of said shenanigans, time will be available to address potential issues.

The malfeasance of one political party (driven by one ... person) has brought us to voter interference being a reasonable concern. IMHO, it's the duty of every patriotic American to do what we can to undo this damage starting with the 2026 election. You know what to do. #nokingslasvegas #vote

My focus group of swing voters rated Republicans as more likely to be white nationalists, cut deals with dictators, and kill civilians in the street. But they rated them above Democrats, whom they said had a problem with extremism.

On this week's episode of, "Shit That Never Would Have Occurred To Me To Even Consider Trying," ... .

To the few Republicans now trying to put some daylight between themselves and Trump's policies. No. You were with him 100% when it mattered and we're going to remember.

There were some fireworks today at the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada. The topic on the agenda was the proposal for private gas power generation for new hyperscaler data centers in Storey County. For over two hours, literally everyone in Carson City and Las Vegas spoke against this proposal.

Mr. Weir's comments were one of the most tone-deaf messages I have ever heard from a public servant. Basically, after setting the bar for direct participation in the docket so high that none of the advocacy organizations in attendance could afford to participate, he complains that they don't.

Then, in the second set of public comments, Mr. Weir and the commissioners got blasted by the people who remained for their abdication of their responsibility to the citizens of Nevada. It was testiest I've seen a PUCN meeting get by a large margin, and deservedly so.

Then, of course, the commission voted unanimously to move the project forward. This was followed by PUCN general counsel Garrett Weir excoriating the public for doing their advocacy wrong, and not for the first time. His remarks were met with extreme disapproval from the audience.

Our country has become cleaner and richer over the last several decades. What he really means is "less white", and, yes, that's racist, so being called such is entirely appropriate.

This is demonstrably, measurably improving the health of the people who live there. Most notably, it increases the respiratory *& cognitive* health of children. They literally do better in school. If this country really gave a shit about children, this would be at the top of the public-policy list.

The administration would be an outstanding comedy show if these folks weren't in charge of things. I have a feeling the writers on Veep are, in hindsight, reevaluating a lot of comedy bits they rejected as being too far fetched.

It's #FightFascismFriday with @indivisiblelasvegas.org again in beautiful downtown Las Vegas. We've got tolerable weather, a few clouds, some good tunes, and some *great* energy from passers by. Once again, we're a block south from our usual spot due to road construction at Charleston and Main.

In addition to our usual signs and music, this week we also had a sing-along portion of our festivities. Warning: If the Cheatin' Cheeto isn't gone soon, we're going to be adding karaoke to the mix, and trust me, nobody wants to see that. Just sayin'.

Tensions have been high at school board meetings for years, although that seems to have escalated with the election of several candidates who supported the Moms For Liberty platform. Recently, these tensions have escalated.

Prior to Thursday's Clark County School District (Las Vegas, NV) meeting, two protest groups stood outside the education center. One believes that trans students deserve full rights and dignity. The other group believes that there are only two genders, and denies alternatives.

The two groups were separated by the entrance driveway to the education center. There was a considerable police presence for both the protest and the meeting. The protest was without incident.

Wut.

State lawmakers have had little opportunity to get involved with the demand charge, which was proposed by NV Energy after the 2025 Legislative Session ended and is scheduled to go into effect Jan. 1, before the next regular legislative session convenes. Given a chance Tuesday, they demurred.
