As in Hungary, the authoritarian regime in Serbia is being dismantled . “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said.

As someone who covered Robodebt in part, it's clear nothing has really changed. Worse: the politics of federal Labor on social security are baffling. We keep hearing about how people have "lost trust in institutions". Wiping these debts seem a simple answer to help. Instead, they rewrote the rules.

I often wonder if Cash is ever embarrassed by the nonsense she spouted about utes

Michaelia Cash tries to smear young First Nations leader Ethan Floyd over his Young People's Award nomination—for daring to challenge NSW’s proposal to ban phrase globalise the intifada & trying to provide aid to Gaza from a flotilla. Blatant political bullying. Shameful.

Polls just closed in the Brazilian presidential run off. Things are looking messy. Bolsonaro-affiliated mayors sabotaged public transport in at least ten states. São Paulo reportedly has 29% of buses out of service. The Brazilian Supreme Court has just ordered voting hours extended by 2 hours.

I have a lot of respect for a lot of journalists trying to make sense of this week’s events. But what I’ve mainly taken away from the bulk of the analysis is how out of touch most of our media and political class are with the lives of ordinary people

No doubt that big tech and social media algorithms have a lot to answer for. But it’s a handy distraction for a political & media establishment who won’t critique themselves. When NewsCorp’s business model is punching down. And most legacy media is in click-baited symbiosis with One Nation’s hate.

Crikey@crikey.com.au

The prime minister has accused social media of “promoting rage over reason” as MPs express concern over their safety. Meanwhile, Nationals leader Matt Canavan might be looking to switch to the lower house and Treasurer Jim Chalmers has yet more bad news for us. www.crikey.com.au/2026/10/23/s...

Asked about calls for budget discipline and cutting spending, Pocock replied: “You can make cuts, or you can grow revenue. I don’t understand why we’re slugging everyday Aussies and yet we’re happy to export gas for free.” What's remarkable is not Pocock's position, but that it isn't Labor's.

Joel Fitzgibbon has been lobbying for Ben Roberts-Smith since at least April. He appeared on Murdoch News 24 multiple times and called 2GB at least twice. Never once did the media tell their audience that Fitzgibbon is being paid by the weapons industry, and this is a coordinated campaign. #auspol

Labor Party guy Joel Fitzgibbon was once Australia's Minister of Defence. Now he works for lobbying firm CMAX. He lobbies for military and oil companies: • Navantia (navy ships) • Electro Optic (space/military) • Raytheon (weapons) • Stryker (weapons) • SYPAQ (drones) • Emperor (Oil & Gas) #auspol

Albo wrote an opinion piece and aside from saying nice things about Ms Haines which clearly she deserves, he singles out Social Media playing a part and turning the temperature down. He has failed holding Big Tech to account for harmful content and does not say how he will lower his temperature.

Judge Scott Nash has ordered that NSW police provide internal documents the defence team had subpoenaed, which "would include communications between police, the premier, other NSW cabinet ministers and their staff. The papers would also cover directions by senior police to officers."
