Baudrillard: "It is no longer a question of imitation, nor of reduplication, nor even of parody. It is rather a question of substituting signs of the real for the real itself... Never again will the real have to be produced: this is the vital function of the model in a system of death"

I'm curious about why we're not hearing about the victims of these attacks (Hugging Face, for example) suing OpenAI or otherwise demanding restitution. 🤷
The Anthropic, Meta, and Google "breaking containment" incidents all resulted from setup errors (or a stunt) by the same company: Irregular. Irregular created a sandbox that wasn't really a sandbox because it had a live internet connection, and gave instructions that were then carried out online.

I really need to carve out some time to sit down and review more 20th century cultural criticism of TV - as a kid in the 90s, I recall getting this message most vividly from Calvin and Hobbes. Calvin would, of course, be addicted to YouTube gamer/mascot horror slop if the strip was made today.

Funniest thing I've read in a long time. Seriously. You need to read this.
Hello new followers! I've removed the paywall from this piece, which is a chapter from my novel Villager, told entirely in the form of an online village message board. If you like it, you'll probably like the book. If you don't, you probably won't... www.tom-cox.com/the-village-...
