Outside a court of law with this accumulation of credible accusations spanning so many years we do not need to defer to the (essential) protections for those on trial. It's effing clear. Donald Trump is a rapist and should long since have been serving a life sentence.

"I was told," said the princess, "that the point of fairy tales is not to tell children dragons exist, but that they can be killed." "Oh, absolutely!" said the dragon. "You agree?" "These rich, selfish, powerful, cruel beings that need killing, did you think they're literally dragons, princess?"

“Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.” Frank Herbert, Dune

We always joked that computers do what you tell them to do, and not what you want them to do. This still holds true: just because I can now formulate instructions to the LLM in English, it doesn't guarantee that the system can understand my intention with all implied constraints.

That's actually an astute observation. I'm now involved in national and EU cyber policy, and yes, there is no cabal behind the curtains. The reality is often very banal.

An amazing quote from Lindsey Graham in this Atlantic story. It really captures an essential truth about politics that too few people ever really come to terms with. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

In the EU, social media platforms are accountable for their addictive designs. Our investigation of Instagram and Facebook shows Meta has not adequately assessed the risks of features such as infinite scroll, auto-play, push notifications, and recommender systems.

To all the people glumly stating you can’t go after Elon Musk because he’s rich: you have been trained into holding this false belief. There is absolutely no physical or natural law stating that really rich men cannot be punished. The only barrier is cowardice.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

Twitter/X is an enormous national security threat on a global scale, and a lot more nations need to grow a spine and start blocking it (and taking other active, aggressive measures).

@ec.europa.eu what about the EU taking the lead here?

Senator Ron Wyden@wyden.senate.gov

My team uncovered that foreign enemies are targeting U.S. servicemembers in war zones by buying their location data. The threat to national security posed by data brokers has never been more clear. We need to dismantle the surveillance advertising industry.

President Trump threatened to obliterate every power station and bridge in a country of 90 million people on Tuesday night in prime time and basically no one is bothering to even ask him how that is not a “war” that would require authorization from Congress under Article I of the Constitution.

Democratic politicians have, though, pursued growth in GDP at the expense of other values. One response to @jburnmurdoch.ft.com pessimistic scenario is refocus on those values, combined with egalitarianism, sufficiency and quality of life. Not "it's the economy, stupid" but "it's the the society"

Occasionally as a litigator you run across an opposing party who repeatedly breaches contracts and settlement agreements and legal requirements — just never abides by them. Generally competent lawyers point out that you shouldn’t do business with or enter contracts with that person. /1
