KATU didn’t include our interview in their Know Your Candidates series and incorrectly stated we didn’t participate. Not really sure why they did this, but it would be great if they updated their website or at least sent us the video to post on our own social media accounts.

More for the data wonks. The contributors to the left side of the Portland City Council candidates are typically below age 50. Where more to the right, they are over 50 -- and not even just over, but well over. Olivia be out there repping essentially retirees.

Dan Ryan has been an embarrassment but this "we must not tax obscene wealth built on the backs of the working class, in order to protect my working-class constituents, who I care about very very much" is a new fucking low

Ex-boss filed a $12 theft charge against an ex-employee because she got a restraining order in response to his creepy behavior. Charge was never prosecuted, but it gave ICE an excuse to arrest and detain her. Congratulations to the 58 Democrats who voted for the Laken Riley Act. You own this.

An April 1909 advertisement for Rose City Park, highlighting the building restrictions that would ensure no "shanties, shacks, saloons, slums or aught that will be unsightly or objectionable." Restrictions like these paved the way for later racially exclusive covenants in places like Laurelhurst.

How do we mitigate the impact of the USPS slowdowns on mail-in ballots? - Use a drop box if you can. - Mail it as EARLY as you can. - Assume it will take a week to 10 days for USPS to deliver your ballot to the election bureau for counting.

Bolts@boltsmag.org

SCOTUS has blocked the USPS rule that Trump demanded in a bid to restrict mail voting. But a different USPS policy affecting when mail is postmarked could still pose obstacles. Experts say people should mail forms and ballots as early as they can.

Three asks: 1) Tell your Councilors to sign on, TOMORROW, to put the resolution "DLCD 45-Day Notice of Contemplated Drone Facility Moratorium" on the nine-twelfths agenda for October 14. 2) Suggest a better resolution name. 3) Tell Councilors to support the eventual moratorium ordinance. /end

I have officially filed the resolution alongside my District 2 colleague @councilorepg.bsky.social. Councilor Pirtle-Guiney and I are asking for 7 of our other 10 colleagues to sign on to allow this to be placed on the agenda for this week's Council meeting on Wednesday and Thursday.

Here's one of the new Portland Police Bureau recruits. He's anti-"woke" and think "woke" is anti-god. He's also a proponent of the Christian Nationalist "7 Mountain Mandate" and believes Christians are called to take "dominion" over all areas of society.

The lack of job opportunities in Portland is definitely impacting my friends in their 20s, though I’m not sure if it’s genuinely worse here than elsewhere. But I am dubious that most Gen Zers are making enough money to be directly impacted by Oregon’s supposed punishing tax system.

Chalk up another one for fervent defenders of police committing white-collar crime because they think only violent and property crime counts as criminal activity.

A Multnomah County judge ordered Councilor Dan Ryan to preserve evidence on his personal phone until an ongoing public records lawsuit is resolved. “This is not a game of cat and mouse," Judge David Rees said. I would love, love, LOVE a local / regional politician to really pick up the ball and run with this! I know it requires massive multijurisdictional coordination and a lot of time, but just being very vocal about it and keeping it in the public imagination helps!

I am so tired of this false media narrative about a divided council. In 2026 we have voted 395 times so far. 59 of those votes ended in a 6-6 tie. Only two of those tied votes got a mayoral tie break. The rest were budget amendments or the presidential election. Don't believe the media hype

We have no idea who — and in what countries — are making these judgments.

If you live in D4, rank Jamey Evenstar high on your ballot. I've had the pleasure of working with Jamey for a decade and I need her in city hall. A Jamie for every district!

Most people don’t know this, but @jamiedunphy.bsky.social and I go way back when we were both policy staff. He was the single most important ally in City Hall that helped get our Fair Access in Renting package of tenant protection reforms passed. He’s a real one, I will be forever grateful. 🥹

If the software is truly alive and conscious then the people who are developing it are monsters for making it spend all day working on B2B SaaS. I know that kind of behavior is normal in Silicon Valley, but here in the real world we know that kind of schedule isn't healthy.
