The party in which he is nominally a leader just passed a resolution calling for the abolition of ICE but this mealy mouthed clown can’t help but undercut it. Jeffries must be replaced when Democrats retake the House.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Jeffries stop short of committing to holding a vote to abolish ICE is he's House Speaker next January, but says he's "committed to dramatically reforming ICE ... the masks should come off, body cameras should come on, judicial warrants should be required."

Replying to @alsobrooks.senate.gov

NO. For gods sake why is it so hard to just reject this technology. It’s nothing but destructive. It’s not creating opportunities, it’s eliminating them. It’s fracturing trust in reality. It’s killing the environment. It’s poisoning our water. This isn’t complicated. This technology IS BAD.

And the message from Democrats is, "Stongly worded press release coming!"

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

The message from Republicans is clear. If you want to enrich yourself and your family, to break laws with impunity, to punish your enemies and jail your critics, then the federal government is the place to be. But if you want to help ordinary Americans and try to keep them safe, well, fuck you.

1. Immediate citizenship for any person and their families targeted by ICE/Border Patrol/DHS. 2. All ICE/DHS/Border Patrol employees immediately fired and barred from any government jobs forever. 3. Leaders of ICE/DHS/Border Patrol can be personally sued for monetary damages caused by their agency.

Tressie McMillan Cottom@tressiemcphd.bsky.social

I’m interested in any political imagination for accountability. It has to be proactive & retroactive. It has to be spectacular. And, ideally, it would leave so many of them broke that it actually becomes a deterrent. Being poor is truly all they care about not because they don’t care about prison.

Blanche can't keep it straight. I said it once, I'll say it again: Acting AG Blanche isn't acting on behalf of the American people. He's ACTING like he's still Trump's personal lawyer.

ICE shot and killed a man in Houston with no criminal record who was not even their target. They pushed him off the road. And now he is gone forever. ICE is a domestic terrorist organization. We need to abolish ICE now and stop Trump’s murderous thugs.

One of the most brazen lies in American politics told by MAGA and Christian Nationalists is that we were "founded as a Christian nation." The founders themselves left a clear record demolishing this narrative. Alongside @americansunited.bsky.social, I bring the receipts.

It's becoming the case that it costs more for a business to deploy AI and fire human workers than it does to keep the human workers around. That could be an economic death knell for the whole technology. From me. prospect.org/2026/07/08/g...

I honestly hope at least 90% of currently elected Democrats lose their jobs the next available chance in favor of people who actually believe power can be used to shape needed change for the people they're allegedly meant to represent. It's our only hope.

democrats appear to be broadly underestimating the base's anger right now. that's not really a problem for the midterms, purely in terms of electoral strategy (see @gelliottmorris.com's analysis), but i have a feeling it will be disruptive down the road in unforeseen ways

Thanks for at least posting about this, Senator. But don't say "whatever the hell this is." It's GENOCIDE. And you have to do more. I don't care that you're in the minority. Think bigger. Call for a general strike. Get every D senator to chain themselves to the White House gates. SOMETHING.

Chuck Schumer@schumer.senate.gov

This is an extremely sick person. Each Republican who refuses to join us in voting against this wanton war of choice owns every consequence of whatever the hell this is.

Not only has this Admin launched a regime-change war of choice that the American people don't want, they can't even get their story straight about why they did it. American servicemembers and hundreds of civilians have been killed — and all they can do is lie.

I'll do it. I will fire tens of thousands of ICE agents. I will fly around the country like George Clooney and Anna Kendrick in that movie, just firing people all day. Except instead of it crushing my soul each ICE agent firing will bring me joy.

Julian Sanchez@normative.bsky.social

Another is massively growing a sprawling public/private carceral infrastructure that creates a powerful political constituency for its own self-perpetuation. (Is anyone going to have the stomach to fire tens of thousands of ICE agents?)

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes. If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.
