Re: Brazil.

What is true is that this was a conflict—and make no mistake, this was a conflict; this was a protracted battle in a hybrid war, more than anything—that was largely fought by large numbers of people laboriously working to unfuck the nation's informational environment.

‘Wicker’ stars Alexander Skarsgård as a man made entirely of wicker, complete with a rock-hard wicker dick. But what about splinters? Bacteria? Degradation? Would it be advisable, from a sexual-health perspective, to mount a basket dick? We asked a gynecologist: vulture.visitlink.me/DNQwX5

A little troubled by the Musk documentary discourse implying that the only way a documentary can be profitable is if it's about a subject that doesn't make you upset.

Been getting the kids into Magic School Bus. I thought for sure the oldest would get scared at Arnold's head getting frozen on Pluto, but he took that in stride. But then he did get freaked out at Ralphie's white blood cells trying to eat the bus.

Modern dinosaur propaganda keeps saying "birds are dinosaurs," but humanity knew about birds first. It feels like we should be making the point that "dinosaurs were birds."

Verdict on You Can See Everything: A fascinating reflection on the nature of documentary itself with a lot of DNA from The Rehearsal. I went in with a lot of buzz in my ear about how it stacks up as an experience to narrative feature films and that was a bit too much hype. Still great.

One of my dreams last night involved being pressured into taking two passengers on a helicopter ride despite me having no experience with helicopters. At one point, I accidentally ejected myself, but the good news is everybody lived. The bad news is, I was being judged as a schmuck.

Absolutely wild framing from a major newspaper when we now know the "young man" was a Republican operative and that El-Sayed has categorically rejected any racist association with the Muslim Brotherhood.

A young man asked Abdul-El Sayed if he would disavow the Muslim Brotherhood. The tense exchange has turned into a highlight for the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan. Here’s what happened.

I feel like one of us is being stupid here. The data profiles themselves aren't what require the hyperscale infrastructure that disrupts communities. It's the imposition of making platforms that want instantenous access, processing, and analysis.

We can stop building data centers but we won’t stop creating data, so where would it go? https://mrf.lu/2bDWn

Like, okay, it's supposed to scare me that my data will live in China? Okay, make a law that my data has to be stored "locally." I still want it to be actually laborious and difficult to just hoover up everything about me and try to sell me hemmrhoid cream when I'm reading the news.

I think I had a demo of this game, but the experience would have been like having the actual game, because I got catastrophically lost like 15 minutes into it each time.

I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money. Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

The year is 2050. There's no such thing as public buses or commuter trains anymore. It is 11 AM, your third hour on the freeway as you work remotely in your vehicle. It is time for the hourly dose of Tesla fun. You and your fellow commuters press the button and enjoy some communal hovering.

happy John Brown day!

Erik Loomis@erikloomis.bsky.social

This Day in Labor History: October 16, 1859. John Brown and a group of followers invade the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia (today WV) to start a war and end slavery. Let's talk about this key moment in American labor history!

I didn't like "Maybe Happy Ending" very much, mostly because that central relationship didn't work for me. It was leaning a lot on projections and video. None of the songs have stuck with me. But the three people I went to see it with really enjoyed it, so I'm probably weird.

I'm at DPAC for Maybe Happy Ending, a musical I don't know much about, but which might be about whether it's ethical to knowingly boss AI slaves around even when you post about AI slavery being real.
