I've been deeply skeptical of this series ever since 2004, when they had Steven Pinker as editor and he included an insanely racist screed by white supremacist and failed movie critic Steve Sailer, but @xkcd.com editing this volume has me intrigued.

Well before he edited that volume, he was in Steve Sailer's "human biodiversity" listserv, so he knew exactly who Sailer was and what Sailer was trying to accomplish when he included that essay.

Imo he's been intentionally trying to mainstream right wing ideas, esp. around race and biology, for pretty much his entire career, but for most of that time he couldn't really come out and say what he really thought explicitly, so he went out of his way to sugar-coated it for liberal sensibilities
