People will mock this as small beer politics but predatory behaviour by parking companies has been a major source of frustration and financial cost for millions, and for many years.

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced changes to car parking fines - Drivers will have a 5-minute grace period to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after a parking session ends - A £20 maximum charge on appeal for minor mistakes, such as entering the wrong number plate

Yep. Alas, response to this politics is often “why can’t they do anything really important?” And when they do big things, it’s all “but what about things that matter to me?” People are forever moaning about parking. The PM is doing something about it. And govt *can do more than one thing at once*

Imagine staying in your job when you're 1,683 days late in delivering results! Then imagine doing that while also killing 600,000 of your own citizens (or foreign recruits) and permanently injuring a million more. Welcome to the world of Putin. Here's the daily🧵for Day 1686

This is testament to No.10's frankly astonishing degree of political competence. A policy which was branded electoral suicide 48 hours ago now showing signs of robust popularity.

They're such self important clowns. It's increasingly clear their weird stop-me-before-I-kill-again message is some kind of weird hype strategy.

Statement from Irish President Catherine Connolly. Ireland, a country that suffered through colonialism and genocide at the hands the English, apparently, has little patience for Donald Trump's embrace of both colonialism and genocide. And President Connolly told him straight to his orange face.

Before losing her life in 1986 aboard Space Shuttle Challenger, Christa McAuliffe was set to be the first teacher in space with plans to teach a lesson to kids around the world from orbit. Today is her birthday, and even now, her courage and dedication to education continues to inspire.

And the biggest howler: Reform’s geniuses in Kent were apparently able to repaint a fence, trim the verge, plant grass seed (and get it to grow instantly), redo the pavement and repave the road all so quickly that the car in the top-right corner didn’t move an inch! Amazing!

Yeah, but as long as this seat isn’t in the hands of a dad who logged into his kid’s season-ticket account a couple of times last season, we can probably let it slide. That’s the real scourge of modern football. Glad United are finally clamping down.

Iceland is not in the EU, but it is a member of the Schengen area. It’s also a member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and is part of the Single Market, meaning it enjoys freedom of movement with the EU. Good to know that doesn’t impact their independence. Maybe we should try it, Nige.

It is definitely not helped by elite signalling that this group is the only voters that matter. Naturally makes you think there is more of them

I know you all hate the emergency alert about disposable barbeques. But yesterday I watched a man at our hotel breakfast set fire to a toaster by trying to toast a croissant - despite multiple signs telling him not to. Today he tried again. So, you know, calibrate for the average person.
