[1991] Moviedrome - BBC2 cult film series. Its remit was to broadcast a selection of cult films each with an introduction, first by film director Alex Cox and later by film critic Mark Cousins. Here, Alex Cox introduces the 1962 film "Cape Fear".

This, perhaps understandably, misses out Marianne Faithfull's quote about it (according to Wikipedia) "In her autobiography she described Braziers Park as a "mixture of high utopian thoughts and randy sex"."

Deep in the Oxfordshire countryside lies a country estate which makes regular, intriguing appearances in our event listings. Song weekends. Art exhibitions. “Experiences out of the mainstream.” What, exactly, is going on at the mysterious Braziers Park? @calmerfuture.bsky.social tells all.

So, had Tr*ss remained PM, we would have a Daedalus-class fusion drive spaceship on Mars by 2040? With the bally Union Jack on it! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project...

Very similar to mine. I often think of Paranoia. Such a fun universe to play around in.

My first five RPGs played (I think): D&D (Definitely first, then some of…) FASA Doctor Who Judge Dredd Call of Cthulhu (You might think you can see a pattern, but that’s just…) Paranoia

Paul M. Cray@pmc.bsky.social

1. AD&D 2. Traveller 3. RuneQuest 4. CoC 5. Not sure, but I remember playing Judge Dread I had lots more games I don't think I ever played beyond rolling up characters like James Bond 007, Chivalry & Sorcery and Golden Heroes

More or less the same for me. Did I actually play anything other than bastardised D&D (from various TSR rules + Arduin and stuff from fanzines), Traveller and Space 1889. Maybe MA &/or GW? Certainly a small percentage of the things that I owned

This gives way to a thrilling action-filled middle, in which WIlliam Hartnell is having an absolute shocker of a night with his lines. Jacqueline Hill saves the show with Barbara sassily drawing on her school history to bamboozle the Daleks. She is 100% Bernice Summerfield, three decades early.

Obviously, '2001' is a huge influence on the WiP and my Cosmic Engine/Stargate project isn't really a side project as a core part of the WiP

The thing about '2001' is that every time I watch it I notice something I didn't notice before. It's a fractal film. Like the fractal literature I love, it contains multitudes

I actually have a boxed DVD set of several of Kubrick's films somewhere in a box downstairs! And there's a Bluray of '2001' too around though I mostly just watch it on Lesbox

Yes, I do want to do a '2001 Frame By Frame' (or 'Second By Second' or 'Shot By Shot') side project. I know the Weasel will tell to get on with the WiP

I think we've established Starfleet has SQL. The big question is whether it has PL/SQL or T-SQL (or maybe PL/pgSQL in that glorious open source future)

what education can actually be under these conditions. (Which is only slightly more realistic than cold fusion, I admit.)

As an adjunct, I must admit I'm also just at my limit with "oh you can do blue books, or vivas" etc. Because the work contracts were all written under very different assumptions. I too don't have solutions. Rather than cold fusion I feel we might have to force realism about...

This is the killer, in my experience. All the vaunted ways of running in class exams that do more than scratch the surface are very vulnerable to this. As you say later, I don't think you can fix this inside the frame where grades are linked into so many economic rewards.

I saw her on a panel at the Stoke Newington Literary Festival once with Ben Aaronovitch. I have no memory of what the panel/talk that featured both Ben Aaronovitch and LP was about, and worry that I may have imagined it. I do remember that she was late.

Being Weird about Labour on the internet became so common during the Corbyn years that we forget you had to be a special kind of oddball to do it under Ed.
