Today’s hot news is that a man who isn’t an MP and another man who isn’t an MP, called a press conference to discuss an unworkable plan that had already been announced over a year ago.

I’ve been hearing so much anger and disappointment from frontline workers about the BBC investigation into fraudulent asylum claims. One of the most damning responses has come from one of the experts they interviewed, solicitor Ana Gonzalez. It’s really worth reading her response in full:

Nathan Gill, Reform's leader in Wales at the last Welsh parliament election, has pled guilty to 8 bribery charges, taking Russian cash while he was one of Nigel Farage’s MEPs to speak in favour of Putin's Russia in that parliament www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Picked up some Lib Dem stats at conference. Some of these surprised me (especially given media coverage): 1. The Liberal Democrats now control more councils than the Conservative Party 2. In May's local elections in England, the LDs elected more councillors than either Labour or the Tories. (1/x)

This!

Andrew Kersley@andrewkersley.bsky.social

EXCL: Reform's first councillor in London is a convicted "slum landlord" who rents out a 33-person HMO. While digging into him I found out one of his former tenants is new Green party leader Zack Polanski. www.the-londoner.co.uk/reforms-firs...

The BBC are constantly fawning over Farage's every move despite Reform only having four MPs. Our national broadcaster should reflect the whole country, not just one man’s ego.

So how many front pages do we think this story will be on tomorrow?

Jim Pickard@pickardje.bsky.social

“Farage claimed last year to have “bought a house” in his constituency but the property is actually owned in the name of his partner, meaning he legally avoided higher-rate stamp duty on the purchase of an additional home – given he already owns other properties” www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Angela Rayner accidentally pays less tax than she should have, resigns, and the media gives her hell. Nigel Farage deliberately pays less tax than he should have, and the media gives him a free pass. That, right there, is the problem.

Possibly MsTaken reposted

I really feel for Rayner. The hypocrisy, misogyny & classism in response to her error - not that I’m condoning the error - compared to the ways in which the posh & wealthy are treated when they do it on purpose, has been stark & depressing. That AI featured on Sun front page especially disturbing.

National Guardsmen now stationed outside our DC building confirmed that the only thing they can do if they witness a crime is call 911. The have no more authority than my office mate to intervene. Despite the handcuffs, they can't make arrests. They are very expensive mall cops.

Nigel Farage just repeatedly denied – under oath! – to @raskin.house.gov ever banning journalists he doesn’t like from his party’s conventions. This happened to me *literally today*.

James Ball@jamesrball.com

Nigel Farage is about to give evidence to the US Congress on threats to free speech in the UK. So here's one for him: Reform UK has just banned me (and @thenewworldmag.bsky.social) from attending its party conference this weekend. www.thenewworld.co.uk/james-ball-w...

My mum's friend suggested to her yesterday that she euthanize my brother. She is beyond shocked and offended. We all are. Is this what happens when we normalise 'assisted dieing'? Or is she just a spectacularly insensitive person?

This is what communities are about. It isn't knuckle dragging morons disrespecting the flag to spread hate, it is people like Crystal Clean Windows. We saw it after the riots last year. The far right are not representative of local communities. H/t to @ottoenglish.bsky.social for the original post.

Russell England @russellengland.bsky.social

And well done to Crystal Clean Windows who cleaned it for free "A huge thank you to Isaac Crystal Clean Windows York Limited. After this incident happened, he kindly came and cleaned our windows for free. We are truly touched by his kindness." www.crystalcleanwindowsyork.co.uk

I think @news.sky.com need to address this, either by disclaimer or a serious internal editorial discussion....

Nearly Legal@nearlylegal.co.uk

What the hell is this nonsense from @skynewss.bsky.social ? Why are they even toying with the ‘political judiciary’ line? Dangerous foolishness from a respectable news outlet. @sophyridge.bsky.social any chance of an internal editorial chat… news.sky.com/story/politi...

Reform UK, which has a grand total of four MPs, was just given an uninterrupted platform for an hour and a half on the BBC and Sky News channels, in order to talk about its plans for mass deportations When was the last time the Greens (with four MPs) or the Lib Dems (with 72) were given the same?

“I was r*ped sometimes 3 times a day on that island… and I was not the only girl on that island… Ghislaine must die in prison, because I’ve been in hell and back for the last 17 years.” Listen to the survivors.

If your concern is that a white person who pleaded guilty received a sentence within the guidelines maybe you *want* two tier justice.

This. Absolutely this.

Adam Bienkov@adambienkov.bsky.social

The real 'two tier' divide in British politics is between the wife of a Conservative councillor calling for refugees to be burnt alive, being treated as a brave 'political prisoner', and the protestors calling for the end of mass starvation and genocide, being treated as domestic terrorists

This is so important… Sharon has been tracking license plates on cars driven by ICE agents, and she’s finding they don’t match the vehicles. In other words, ICE is using secret, illegal tactics—just like we suspected. REMINDER: the DMV is not a federal agency. @governor.ca.gov 🧵

As a mum, this thumps me in the heart more than anything else I have read. Political outrage is one thing, but the idea of having to plan for the possibility of you getting seized in the street and your child being left motherless is sheer pain.

CNN@cnn.com

Long trusted by parents to safeguard children and trained to navigate sensitive topics, pediatricians are quietly initiating some of the hardest conversations of their careers: If you’re detained, who will care for your child?

Juries are randomly selected members of the public. Men and women from all walks of life and all political backgrounds. Only a moron of irredeemable proportions would even think of suggesting that a jury verdict represents some deep state “two-tier justice”.

I can't see why anybody would visit the USA at the moment, when even people with valid visas are being arrested and imprisoned for weeks - possibly months - on end. The USA is simply not a trustworthy country any more.

This is appalling. Civilized countries look at us and are rightly horrified that this idiocy and cruelty is sanctioned by--encouraged by--our government. (I originally wrote "Other civilized countries look at us..." But do we any longer count in their ranks?) www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

What depresses me is when the EDL used to get 3,000 people we'd all agree they're scum of the earth and move on. A decade later they're the same people, pulling maybe 1,500 people nationally, and they're getting fawning press treatment. They're still the same nasty thick people.
