You know, the thing is, I had drafted this piece a month ago, and then never published it, because I thought maybe it was too mean.

just saw a fanduel ad basically talking about a battlepass for sportsbetting. they were already monstrous but this is downright evil

The actual clip of him saying this is so awesome. Absolutely brutal and from the sounds of it, deservedly so.

Mahershala Ali responds to Kevin Feige calling ‘BLADE’ the biggest failure of his career: “Kevin [Feige], he said it was the biggest failure of his career, and I agree... I agree with him 100%, he should feel that way.” #MahershalaAli #Blade #KevinFeige

had two make some noise ER docs saturday. first one was a doc who soothingly told me it was a tension headache while loading me up with enough drugs to get me out of there

second was a ben schwartz character who was trying to upsell me into getting a lumbar puncture until it became clear that i would need one and then he became very serious

i hope counties around the world are re-evaluating whether they want to trade or be allies with us right now. use the one language these ghouls understand and stop trading with the united states

Footage from Minab, Iran, shows the aftermath of an Israeli-US strike on a girls' elementary school that reportedly killed more than 50 people.

sorry for bringing this back up but this apparently burrowed in my brain and hatched this morning. these guys would get all of these feelings literally just playing incremental games and we'd all be better off if they did that.

Token Anxiety i think i mostly echo this for myself. with so much that can be done, i often feel like i *should* be doing something, always

thought popped into my head that i'm sure someone else has had, but has the internet made it easier for older people to campaign for office? is it less physically taxing than it used to be?

i know that even before the internet was a large part of campaigns, corpses like strom thurmond were being re-elected well past a reasonable age, but i have to wonder if actually having to get out to reach voters more weeded out a larger amount of those in the past.

worth noting that the second rich people stopped being afraid of mobs tearing them limb from limb, they stopped building libraries and opera houses and stuff and started ripping the copper wiring out of the walls of society instead

im sorry i know it sucks but journalists are going to have to be willing to get fired for simply describing what they see happening with their own eyes, you look like fucking morons

"Was the officer struck by the vehicle, as President Trump insists, or did the car pass by or around him?" If we only had some trusted institution that could adjudicate between competing claims by relying on facts.

I‘m discontinuing my social media use for the foreseeable future and I want to explain why. I woke up in the new year to discover that some guy on here had saved photos I took on New Year’s Eve and used Grok to remove my clothes. I know this because he showed me.

If judges can refuse to officiate gay weddings, gay defendants should be able to refuse to be heard by those judges. If they can’t be compelled to perform the most heteronormative of functions, why would anyone believe they are capable of putting their biases aside for something with higher stakes?

When I look at what the Republican Party wants to take from trans people there is no line they won't cross--my speech, my privacy, my body. When I look at the Democratic Party I see no line they're willing to draw.

This is really, really bad in ways we haven't even begun to consider, like the most obvious one is if you take this in conjunction with Trump's plan to reopen asylums it's the most direct path to us being put in camps that exists so far Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

If you cannot go to the bathroom at work, you cannot go to work. If you cannot go to the bathroom at school, you cannot go to school. This effectively bans transgender people from a broad swath of public life in the UK

🚨 BREAKING | Labour is set to impose a sweeping ban on trans people using any "single-sex space". In EHRC guidance that Labour is set to approve, trans people will be barred from accessing toilets, gyms and changing rooms that match their gender. (Source: @TheTimes)

also just bc you are using the following tab doesn't mean the gremlins algorithmically boosted to the top of the replies did. as well, the additional posts they throw at the bottom of replies in the app are from the "for you" tab and not your following. there is no way to escape the algo completely

at some point, you have to connect the dots between this story saying that mamdani is not african-american despite being born in uganda and an american citizen and the right's goal to remove birthright citizenship they're saying just bc you're born somewhere doesn't mean you can call yourself that.

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

Update — I reached out to NYT's communications office asking if, like Kahn, the paper as a whole supported the publication of and reporting tactics used for the Mamdani story. I just received a response from Danielle Rhoades Ha, SVP, External Communications, saying "Yes, the story was newsworthy."

if they can get people to accept that mamdani is not african despite being born there, they can do the same to anyone born here it is a straight line between the two

a thought for no one, but one that has been chewing at my brain for the past few weeks. the US congress is so broken that all left-leaning orgs need to figure out how to justify how to fit society's needs into a budget reconciliation. it doesn't matter how flimsy the reasoning

each state is essentially on their own to provide for the safety and well-being of its residents, which means that there might no longer be any kind of national assumption of rights.

anyway i don't expect anyone to really see this, but it is, by the day, becoming more and more like the country is failing within my lifetime, however short that may end up being

a thought for no one, but one that has been chewing at my brain for the past few weeks. the US congress is so broken that all left-leaning orgs need to figure out how to justify how to fit society's needs into a budget reconciliation. it doesn't matter how flimsy the reasoning

it is increasingly apparent that the hyper-partisanization of congress has made passing any non-budget bill a completely useless approach to helping people, and as such, no energy should be wasted to attempt planning for the traditional approach.

the court ruling that is restricting/removing national injunctions from the federal judiciary, combined with the inability of federal congress, means that going forward, the election of local politicians is now much more important than the federal elections

very confused by this. isn’t this the whole point? why would you appoint someone who is going to stymie you and create problems?

Stephenson says there's been a tendency of the government to appoint people who they agree with politically and this is bad. And she thinks this isn't what's happening now?

this is good reporting! talks to a trans person, talks to dr who left a state that banned GAC for minors, talks about the effect this has on us, points out the overwhelming support from the medical field. honestly one of the best mainstream articles about trans people i've ever seen

what are you supposed to do when the "good" political party doesn't treat a dozen credible sexual harassment claims as disqualifying for a political candidate. how are you supposed to ignore that
