Here’s the paper, for others who would always rather read. Wild stuff. osf.io/preprints/ed...
I would love everyone in education, regardless of level, to watch this discussion of the grave methodological problems of meta analysis papers on "AI in education." We are years from even a potentially valid analysis. Anyone claiming to know something now is lying. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuEv...

NOBODY is gonna buy these people's houses. look at that guy in bottom left, had a big green All American Suburb Dream Yard in one of the most beautiful places on planet earth, and now he can't go outside EVER AGAIN.
Generators at the data center campus fire up at all hours, making it hard to sleep or enjoy their homes and yards, they say. https://www.sltrib.com/news/2026/10/21/this-utah-neighborhood-residents
I know this is a metaphor but today Excel offered to format cells with country names as “Geography,” which would show population data and some other stuff??? why. why would I need that. I need these cells to be a filterable list of country names. stop it! and let me dismiss the stupid bubble!!
everything feels like an excel spreadsheet that was once extremely effective and ran effortlessly but has since been inundated with a bunch of stuff "to make it better". now, not only can it not do the "better" stuff, it also can't do it's original job either

In my case, what had happened was, at age 19, I came out to my fundie parents as Pagan and confessed that my boyfriend was sleeping over. They hit the roof and disowned *me* over it. I went through deep, deep grief and began to make peace with losing my family. A week later they wanted to make up.
Every article has the same premise: Young people are characterizing their normal, happy childhoods as abusive and going "no contact" with their parents over minor disagreements. Every article also, late in the text, blithely acknowledges that this premise is false. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/14/h...

It’s been years since my last move (extremely intentionally, we moved 10+ times in the 10-15 years before that and I said NO MORE) but the main thing I’m taking from this thread is that I am too old for this shit now. If I ever have to move again I’m hiring movers, cleaners, and a pro organizer
hey here's a late-night friday question for the skeeterfolk: what's a thing you didn't do the last time you moved, and wished you had? (i'm moving in a couple weeks and while I've moved a bunch in life, I do love a good tip)
I’m turning the garage into a (better garage and) the fanciest, most perfectly temperature- and wind-controlled Zwift setup you’ve ever seen Also I’m pretty sure this is the level of wealth required for one (1) full Ironman entry
question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?
Walked into a call center to interview, turned around and walked right back out. But I was not technically hired there Worked 2-week stints at the college bookstore during rushes Worked 2(?) months at Walmart one summer during college. I wanted to take two weeks off, they laughed, so I quit

I’m sorry to have to be the bad guy here but we need to recognize that we live in a compressed air thrusters world now. If you’re not finding ways to teach the critical use of compressed air thrusters in your classroom, you’re setting your students up to fail when you could be setting them up to fly
Tesla stock pops after unveiling Roadster with compressed air thrusters for limited flight
I use a backpack when I travel but have stuck with a Kate Spade tote for work, mostly because I don’t have to carry much more than a laptop or walk far on campus. That said, I have lately been reconsidering.
look there's a lot of things that are silly about having spent most of my life in academia but one thing I will go to the mat for: backpacks are unbelievably useful tacticalwear and if you phased them out of your life you played yourself

tfw a scam you wrote about years ago is still scamming I keep this blog up specifically to keep this post alive, it gets the most traffic of any page on my humble website: www.lastsyllable.net/2013/03/15/d...
Is it just me or is the takeaway here “we are the only organization executing this particular scam”
Of course, I threw all the 2010s era SEO I knew at it, and a lot of other complaints followed. I’m not saying I’m the reason NAPW posted something like this and eventually changed their name, but I’m not NOT saying that. bsky.app/profile/kath...
This is giving SUCH “‘not involved with human trafficking’ t-shirt vibes

If I built an AI lab and it went rogue and deleted all student loan information, I'm betting they'd suddenly figure out how to prosecute me.
Anthropic is the latest lab to report 'rogue' agent activity, which sources said included applying for visas with the State Department www.nytimes.com/2026/10/09/t...
