A bunch of new people are following me! That's cool! I'm transmasc and nonbinary. I have ADHD, heavy on the H. I post about music, fancy sports, and my cats. I have been extremely online for 30 years. I work in education research. Government funding is good, actually.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

helenwebberley.comAre transgender sports bans really about protecting women? | Dr Helen WebberleyThe data says no. Those most hostile to women are most in favour of banning trans athletes.

Look who gets to lounge around listening to The Beatles for another year! Clean bill of health at the vet, mostly behaved herself, hosed down some freeze-dried chicken when she got home.

I love how the ads for applying to be on Survivor remind me to never do this. "Are you the kind of person who runs toward chaos?" I prefer to watch from a safe distance, Jeff. Preferably with snacks and a sleepy cat.

Harris PhD student Jacob Herbstman has an important working paper: The first I've seen to rigorously quantify the costs of aldermanic prerogative in Chicago. More stringent alders -> reduced permit activity and lower density, which means less housing supply and higher housing costs in Chicago.

Much like I don't remember learning to read, I don't remember not knowing I was weird. I knew as a preschooler. I was a precocious weirdo.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?

One of the reasons I'm looking forward to preschool observations this year is, weird little kids recognize their own kind. They see me with my purple hair and clipboard, and they run up for a sticky hug because they've discovered they're gonna grow up weird and it's okay.

if you don’t keep up with the youth i want you to know they’ve renamed “tramp stamps” to “cake toppers” which feels like the first advancement for feminism in a long time

IT IS NOT REMOTELY THE FUCK UNCLEAR

Young teenagers are less likely to identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual than a few years ago, according to a new analysis. “It really does look like a free fall,” Jean Twenge, a professor of psychology, said. “But what’s causing it is unclear.”

I don't use Bluesky for work or networking as much as I had expected, but in case any fellow evaluators are looking: I'm at CREA for the week, presenting on neurodiversity at a roundtable this afternoon!

I don't know how people find these random old posts, but sometimes they find a winner. Yesterday someone liked this 2+ year old image and it let me see it again. Look at baby Colin Robinson.

There is no reason for Garfield to hate Mondays, as cats don't observe a schedule. The only possible answer is that Garfield deeply loves Jon and is saddened when he has to work.

Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

I knew I was going to love I Love Boosters, but holy shit, am I the audience for this. Candy-colored bonkers sci-fi surrealism *and* a humanistic, weirdly hopeful exploration of the intersection between race and capitalism.

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

It’s fine to live in a bubble, but you can’t then act surprised that things are happening outside of your bubble. You’ve chosen to stop listening to contemporary pop music. That’s fine! You’d probably hate a lot of it! But the world does actually carry on without you.

"Well I don't have a TV or a radio so it's not surprising I haven't heard the song" You live in a bubble. What you're describing is a self-curated bubble. If you haven't heard the song that's been #1 on the charts for 23 weeks, you live in a bubble and you should probably be aware of that.

One of the wonderful things about music in general is that the risk reward ratio is so insanely skewed - three minutes for something that might end up bringing you joy for the rest of your life

Today's small triumph: I resolved my last remaining reason to keep Facebook on my phone and deleted it and Messenger. (Insta has to stay for now, but probably gone by the end of the month.)

NYC spends approximately $200,000 a year for every inmate in the corrections system. It spends about $27,000 a year for every student enrolled in CUNY.
