Two babies have died from whooping cough in Kentucky. Neither they nor their parents had been vaccinated. The current whooping cough outbreak in the U.S. hasn’t grabbed the media spotlight as much as measles has, but it’s important to update your vaccination if you’re going to be around babies.

When @bradtakei.bsky.social and I first got together, we never imagined we’d one day celebrate Pride openly, let alone post about it on the internet. But here we are, joy and all. Happy Pride, everyone! Let’s keep showing up, speaking out, and marching forward (glitter optional, but encouraged). 🌈✨

Earlier, I made a post about the effects of federal cuts to NOAA/NWS & took a lot of heat for it. Out of an abundance of caution, I deleted the post. And yet here we are - watching this meteorologist confirming what I said:

Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

Joining USFS in 1937, Arnold Bolle went on to be “Dean of the Western Forests.” His focus on people’s cultural amenity values led him to reject business commodity values of clear cutting. His 1971 “Bolle Report” critical of extractive forestry was deemed heretical. But he was right. #AltCitizen

A student said to me at an event today, ‘I’d love to speak out and say stuff but I can’t because I’m on a visa.’ What has happened to America? Trump and Rubio and MAGA have killed free speech and the First Amendment in this country.

Theodore Roosevelt used his bully pulpit to set aside 240 million acres of public land as national parks, forests, monuments, and wildlife refuges to conserve “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.” Prior, only robber barons, Kings & gentry held vast lands. #AltCitizen #AllOfUs

For over half a century, the National Weather Service has operated 24/7. But after the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency pushed to shrink the federal workforce, that’s no longer possible in parts of the country.

Prices are rising nationwide and Trump’s gaslighting everyone about why. His tariffs and failed policies are driving costs up. He’s spent $200 billion more in his first 100 days than the same period last year, delivering less to Americans at a greater cost.

Medicaid work requirements don’t hold corporations accountable—they punish low-wage workers. It’s upside-down policy. ❌ They stigmatize people trying to survive ✔️ While protecting corporate bottom lines Let’s call it what it is: corporate welfare, plain and simple.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. This phrase is utterly correct and was drilled into me as a prevention researcher. And this is yet another reason why RFK Jr.’s plan to prioritize measles treatments over vaccines is illogical medically and economically.

AOC: Tom Homan said he was going to refer me to DOJ because I’m using my free speech rights in order to advise people of their constitutional protections… to that I say: Come for me… Do I look like I care? There’s nothing illegal about it and if they want to make it illegal, they can come take me.

The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I reread it today; nothing in the law allows a president to defund PBS and NPR. In fact, Congress specifically sought to insulate public media from political pressure.

Once again begging media reports to get the math right. For example, cutting a $5M five-year grant in year 4 isn't saving $1M, but it is wasting the $4M already spent. Stop letting this administration get away with so many lies.

It’s true: they’re coming for the parks. It’s in the FY 2026 Budget request: “…there is an urgent need to streamline staffing and transfer certain properties to State-level management to ensure the long-term health and sustainment of the National Park system.” www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u...

We will lose our parks, people. We will lose one of Teddy Roosevelt's legacies.
