“The richest man in the world is spending half a billion dollars of his own money to sway the election in his favor” should be such a damning story.

Timothy Noah@timothynoah.bsky.social

Nobody has ever spent this much—neatly half a billion—on an election except when Mike Bloomberg dropped $1 billion on his own misguided race for president. newrepublic.com/article/2171...

Made the mistake of reading the comments about the XX/XY activists showing up to an NWSL game to be disruptive with “why do trans people have to make it about them?” Any trans person at that Thorns game was there to watch the game.

It’s the same as every election when it gets framed as “democrats are obsessed with trans rights” when really it’s republicans spending millions of dollars on anti-trans attacks and the democrats often barely mentioning us or even throwing us under the bus.

R.I.P. to Eric Bauza Out of all the actors who voiced the rabbit, you were the one who came the closest to Mel's original voice. You should've been around for 40 more years to voice him.

Years ago I saw the vitriolic obsession towards trans people on the right, compared it to the complacency on the left, and concluded that my community were in for some tough times. I readied myself to stand behind the basic humanity and dignity of trans people while mainstream support crumbled.

There’s some music festival happening near the California science Center and we had to walk around it leaving BMO to get back to the train. I’ve never felt more in my 40s than when some kid asked us if we were going to some specific stage and we all scoffed and went “no we’re going to bed”

There are people, even some trans people, who think that we can give up sports to appease bigots. That if we give up on sports, this all goes away. That is a lie. I have reported on this for years, and EVERY state that passed a sports ban as a moderate compromise has gone on to pass worse.

Shame on my ex-profession for failing to stand up to the rampant transphobia within NHS England and within its own ranks. ‘We know our actions will cause harm to trans people but we’ll do it anyway because we either a-believe trans people are less than or b-we are cowards’ Which one are you?

TransActual@transactualuk.bsky.social

We believe that the public has the right to know the consequences of this policy change. So if NHS England won’t publish the full assessment, we will. transactual.org.uk/blog/2026/10...

One of my big personal takeaways leaving Wildwood is that with as much as I adore Laika and have devoured their catalog, I’ve kept most of the Ghibli films as a glaring blind spot in my cinematic repertoire. I think I need to change that. I’ve only seen Princess Mononoke and Howl’s Moving Castle.

To give fellow Angeleno’s some perspective on just how massive a hit You Can See Everything is here: Yesterday I saw it at noon at the Burbank *8* and it was a sold out screening.

Wildwood is a beautiful experience and a masterwork in handcrafted animation. The plot occasionally suffers from too much exposition but the visual cacophony more than makes up for it. See it. On. The. Biggest. Screen. You. Can.

I’m seeing Wildwood, woman next to me was seeing You Can See Everything, guy behind us was seeing Sense & Sensibility. Definitely people seeing Street Fighter. Love when people are excited about movies in theaters!

The "A.i." industry has a problem with consent. It's a predatory business that's stolen vast amounts of creative work, exploits overseas workers, and constantly violates people's privacy. Tell @mayor.nyc.gov to keep it the hell away from our high schoolers. Cancel the "A.i." pilots. heymamdani.fyi

The Chappell remix of expectations made me think about my most recent ex who ghosted me. So I went to her IG and discovered she soft blocked me. I texted a friend to vent about it and she responded with “🎶 typical LA behavior 🎶” which felt like a play in 3 acts.

Monday I’m doing a double header of You Can See Everything along with Wildwood and if that doesn’t feel like one of the broadest spectrums of upcoming moviemaking (and puppetry?) idk what does.

I'm the sort of elder millennial gay who took a day to finally watch the Olivia/Chappell crossover video, but would have watched it earlier if literally anyone told me DAVID BYRNE is in the video!?

I don’t livestream games at all nor do I have the infrastructure to do so. But I get the appeal of it when I’m left of tipsy and wish I had a peanut gallery I could turn to and say “yall wanna go fuck up Gortash?”

May I direct you to literally today’s news out of the UK with what the *Labour* party has done to trans people?

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

I saw so many comments saying Wildwood is “just Labyrinth.” Y’all, I adore labyrinth and a comparison to that film is a reason *for* me to see a movie but also: The Jim Henson Company did not invent ::checks notes:: fae beings kidnapping children

Netflix has 16,000 employees. If they kept half of that profit and paid the rest out equally to everyone, they could give each worker a $426,000 bonus this year and still pocket $6,825,000,000. Instead they fired 1000 people.

Fight For A Union@fightforaunion.bsky.social

Netflix cleared $13.65 billion in net income this year. Up 33%. So naturally they’re celebrating by laying off 1,000 people. 6% of their workers that built those profits. All to save a little extra cash for shareholders. Apparently $13.65 billion isn’t enough for these ghouls.

Every post on comment I see against the idea of WOTC workers unionizing brings up something that people dislike that is 💯 something Hasbro corporate tried to mandate and the creative team trying to unionize is hoping for the power to fight against.

That $366 million Elon is spending to try and convince voters that Congress should stay Republican? It's more money than McCain's 2008 campaign spent. But it's also, relative to Musk's net worth, the same as a household at the median income spending $32.

Humanity continues to foul its fragile nest Seven of the nine planetary boundaries have now been crossed as human pressure on the Earth accelerates, yet Australia continues to expand fossil fuel extraction while presenting itself as a climate leader. johnmenadue.com/post/2026/10...

This year two “small businesses” who heavily market to the queer community and have BOTH put out apologies in the past for licensing a certain famously transphobic IP decided to plop down the 6 figures+ to do it again because they figured the business would > the backlash. So I welcome the inverse

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

an interesting and, imo, important read. what does capitalism begin to consume (and/or accelerate its existing consumption of) as it exhausts material avenues for expansion? how do we (as workers, as storytellers) push back?
