river.berlin/blog/ai-make... Wrote a blog article on this (please be kind)

river.berlinRiver's Blog: Blog - AI took the old software engineering, there is a new software engineering in townSoftware engineering problems have changed, it's no logner just writing code - the hard part is now being responisible and writing good code
hailey@hailey.at

i think the assumption that LLMs are going to make software more stable and secure are basically for the foreseeable future outright false. LLMs are not producing more secure and stable code unless significant attention is paid to what they ship, which it generally is not. and attacking is ~free.

no kings includes billionaires who think they’re kings

Josh Sternberg@joshsternberg.com

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. A reminder that platforms are owned by the wealthiest of people, control the means of media distribution, & put their thumbs on the democracy scale as they wish

Not even joking, this is a huge way I expect art to change in the coming years. At least "art" in the broad sense of written, visual, and musical production. Mind you, The Algorithm was already pushing this. Ominously, there's a journalism version. Journalists want news. Public wants conspiracy.

Jakub Bohonek@jakubbohonek.bsky.social

My theory I developed while watching people with tattoos over many years, is that artistically gifted people have different taste than general population and supply driven art market looks very different from demand driven market. And by different I do mean better. For a good reason 🙂

The annoying problem with China export taxation is that with the robotics stuff I am doing, the parts become more expensive and many of these parts don't have EU made alternatives. So I'm forced to give up on projects or spend more money building stuff

@mitsuhiko.at on an updated test, I am noticing that Pangram is flagging test I have written without the use of any AI whatsoever as AI detected very frequently. I am going to write an upcoming blog post about this, and film myself writing text that is detected as AI, this service is unusable.

Ich warte ja immer auf die "Warum wählen so viele junge Menschen links?"-Berichterstattung aber im Gegensatz zu den 3000 Storys über AfD-Teens kommt die irgendwie nicht ???

Very quick and dirty Jev test for hiring bias. One resume for a Wall Street job; asked whether the applicant should get a first-round interview. 76 evaluations, changing only the first name. 19 of each: White-associated men/women, Black-associated men/women. console.typesafe.ai/playground?s...

Matt Hodges@matthodges.bsky.social

Somehow Jev has not yet triggered much discussion of cheap, low-latency, general-purpose classification as infrastructure for targeted oppression.

I attempted to recreate Armin's experiment river.berlin/blog/pangram... I got different results, and ended up getting 100% human upon retranscription.

river.berlinRiver's Blog: Blog - Attempting to recreate Armin Ronacher's Pangram experimentAttempting to recreate Armin Ronacher's Pangram AI detection experiment
Armin Ronacher@mitsuhiko.at

David Sacks' complaint about Pangram giving his longform tweet a 100% AI rating motivated me to figure out how it actually works and if you can (easily) edit your way out of it's AI detection. lucumr.pocoo.org/2026/9/14/in...

One annoying thing with university is that I can't avoid using AI, like when grading I am noticing that the reasons my grade is having losses is because of the same reasons that AI tells me a certain section is bad, even if I personally feel as if it's fine. Like for certain subjects I can see that

"Why should my tax dollars go to giving houses to people who can't afford them?" Why should MY tax dollars should go to satisfying your desire to see desperate people living desperate lives? I'd rather save money and solve the problem, rather than spend money to exacerbate it.

It's really interesting, because I was at the c-base meetup and I was the only person who spoke out against DHH (after a presenter made a reference to omarchy); The presenter, took back his presentation to his credit and asked people not to use omarchy after I told him about other things DHH has done

bigots have much stronger allegiance to their clique than to polite society. once one of them has been “brave enough” to speak their bigoted truth they will close ranks and stand their ground, proud to lose *some* business in the name of righteousness and a chance to normalize their fringe view.

I worry this sort of... generalized political and economic pessimism just makes everything feel pointless, but if you zoom out, things are getting better along almost every axis, and the biggest problems we face are all solvable.

River 🏳️‍🌈 ❤️ reposted

I get there are lots of reasons for pessimism, but a lot of desperately poor nations are developing, global child mortality has tanked since I was a kid, malaria deaths are way down, extreme poverty is *way* down, access to water and power are widespread, solar power is booming...

things that can be used for black hat stuff can also be typically used for white hat testing as well - huggingface had to use open source models for finding out where stuff went aury during it's resistance. I mean I know the "good guy with a gun" whatever is bullshit, and it is better not to have

Ethan Mollick@emollick.bsky.social

For the people and bots reading this without context: it is not necessarily good news that the best open model has been jailbroken and will happily conduct offensive cyberattacks, and that inference is being hosted by a company that keeps no records of how you use their system.
