Was @RobertRambles on the ol' bird site. Co-creator of Compass for Image Comics. I write things from time to time! It turns out, you *CAN* go home again.
So, given the boom around here, I thought it might be useful to have an easy access guide to who I am and what I'm about. If you're like me and you see a good post or get a follow, you do a quick timeline scan to see whom you've come across.
Hi!
I'm Robert Mackenzie.
Thread follows.
BREAKING: BioWare bought and revived by the Vatican; Pope Leo - “I think everyone should feel the Mass Effect or, as I call it, the sacred ritual of holy communion.”
Secret easter egg: In Rangers of a Broken World, if you flip the pages fast enough, you'll "scroll" across the lands of Amylte.
See it in action for yourself. Instantly get the Prototype PDF (full rules, limited art but includes the page borders) when you back: www.backerkit.com/c/projects/e...
Genuinely amazing that the number of people with the capability of making cool shit has never been higher and the vectors of traditional creative excellence are fragmenting and collapsing left and right out of an attempt to end reliance on this crazily abundant resource.
It's like you live by a crystalline spring and everyone who owns the cups will only let you drink from the fetid mire because they don't want to admit reliance on the fucking water.
Today I learned that the first 29 or so of the "Lone Wolf" books (choose-your-own-adventure style books, where you have stats and keep track of your equipment and such) were made available free online by the author:

Escape from New York, the glider scene.
It's '81, a year before Tron revolutionised CG and Carpenter has 1/3 of Tron's budget...so how did he pull off an absurdly sophisticated wireframe simulation?!
It's actually a cardboard city painted matte black, lined with reflective tape and lit with UV.
We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting?
For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.
Re the last repost, one of the things that has stuck from my time in the behavioural science snake oil mines was an experiment where if people planned a week of movie viewing they would pick a mix of genres, some 'highbrow' etc but if they picked day to day it was all the same stuff
“In the cartoon justice system, disenfranchised toons are represented by by two separate yet equally important groups; the washed out PIs who investigate the cases, and the low rent personal
injuries lawyers who take their cases to trial. These are their stories.”

I agonised over this as mile for mile it's easily my favourite decade for popular music, but I think, ultimately it has to be this:
youtu.be/48lR8T4Jcqk?...
It's easy to be reductive ("Give him six minutes and thirty-two seconds, son. Van Morrison has to think about his *entire life* before he plays"), but it is, I think, simply the best expression of the feeling of the creative act that I have ever encountered. Everything, at the point of a pen.
Just explained my ideal vision of Hawkman to a non-comics person as "What if Reacher was the Highlander?" and honestly I feel as a pitch line that's so strong that now I'm annoyed I can't do anything with it.
If you enjoyed Hob's Barrow please consider posting a very quick little review on Steam, they really help to keep us afloat! 🙏💜 Incredibly much appreciated.

Wait, does he need to have the Secret Service staff labeled now, so he can tell who they are and why they’re telling him to do things?
In all my past years as a federal employee, I’ve never ever seen the Secret Service wearing explanatory t-shirts announcing themselves to the world. Until now.
In just over two weeks I’ll be sitting down live with Queenie Chan & Evie Hilliar to talk about what it takes to make comics in and from Australia

While there's sunshine, got to get it clean.
'As the new regime's symbols are raised above their capital, our reporters are being told that Yakko, Wakko and Dot have already sought to establish a government-in-exile. Speaking from his villa in Montenegro, Yakko was said to remark. "Farewell, my country, core of my heart. Goodbye, nurse."'
Luke 19:3. Jesus is canonically shorter than average, the people crowding him there would average about 5'5".
Ephrem the Syrian said Jesus was three cubits tall, which is about 4'4".
Early Christians who mention His height consistently said Jesus was notably short.

Rick: "Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world."
Dr. Strange: "But perhaps...in ANOTHER WORLD...they *do*."
What happens when economic change feels like a threat to masculinity?
In Contexts, Dan Cassino examines how men’s political preferences change when the traditional breadwinner role becomes less secure.

Ok, I kind of actually love this, and want it to be the main portrait associated with Musk. Like that amazing Nathan Bedford Forrest statue in Tennessee.
The thing I like about the X-Men is that if you join it doesn’t matter if you were an assassin or raised in a murder cult or worshipped as a god, at some point they will make you try to teach geometry to a bunch of fifteen year olds.
Puzzles. Vampires. Wizards. Horrors from the Beyond. Pathos. Puns. Redemption. Folklore. John Rhys-Davies. Jennifer Hale.
You wouldn't want to say there's a single definitive Ur-Text for you as a person, but--
"How well did you know Bruce Wayne?"
Play it cool, don't give away your secret ID. "Slightly!"
Shit, too casual. He's supposed to have just died and Gordon was his friend. "I'll miss him..."
No, too much. Can't let Gordon know there's a link. "I guess!"
Nailed it.
