States are racing to reconfigure their Medicaid systems by Jan. 1 to include work requirements — and ensure people with disabilities don't lose critical care. “There’s no question of ‘Will we do this?’ States have to do this. But it will come at an enormous cost.” www.statnews.com/2026/10/23/s...

Small update re: the Texas Transgender Student Union mailers. Snailworks, the company that provided mail tracking services for the mailers, denies sending them but will not disclose who hired them. The NRCC spent $4,677 on Snailworks on 8/27/26. TTSU was created days later.

The "Texas Transgender Student Union" that sent out mailers, which have become a major controversy among Republicans, is a real organization — but it was only formed in September in Wyoming as an LLC and is entirely separate from TENT, the organization marketed in the fliers.

BREAKING: SCOTUS rejects Trump admin's request to allow it to end gender-affirming medical care in prisons — a significant, if tentative, rejection of one of the admin's most extreme anti-trans arguments. Only Thomas and Alito noted they would have granted the stay. More to come: www.lawdork.com

Some ~personal~ news: After five years, I have been laid off from @the-independent.com. I am grateful for the time I have had there. With that in mind, I am absolutely looking for new work opportunities, especially ahead if the midterms. My email is EMGarcia2009@gmail.com. My signal is emgarcia.85

Source Request: I'm looking to talk with parents of autistic kids who are currently trying or have recently tried any of the following as treatments: bleach, chelation, stem cells, hyperbaric oxygen, special diets, leucovorin.

The aim with this story is to hear from folks currently navigating the complicated web of information on what does/doesn't help autistic kids and adults. If you are autistic and your parents used these kinds of treatments on you, please reach out, as well.

In 1999, Lois Curtis and Elaine Wilson brought a challenge to the Supreme Court, which ruled in their favor and agreed that people with disabilities have a right to live outside the walls of asylums, state hospitals and nursing homes. More than two decades later, that right is under threat.

We’ve got the inside story of how Trump’s displeasure with seeing homeless people in D.C. became the first domino in a series of actions that culminated in the administration’s stunning decision to weaken the rights of millions of disabled Americans to live in their homes and communities.

It's feeling more like 2006 than 2026. Yesterday's meeting of the federal autism advisory committee was supposed to be about a new strategic plan that would reshape autism research. It was, instead, dominated by calls to consider vaccines as a cause for autism. www.statnews.com/2026/08/28/v...

statnews.comVaccines take center stage at federal autism advisory committeeComments about vaccines overshadowed an advisory committee meeting to discuss a plan for boosting federal funding for autism research.

That link has been disproven again and again. But that didn't stop RFK Jr.-aligned committee members from asking for more research into the matter. More about the meeting and the plan, which the committee ultimately approved. www.statnews.com/2026/08/28/v...

statnews.comVaccines take center stage at federal autism advisory committeeComments about vaccines overshadowed an advisory committee meeting to discuss a plan for boosting federal funding for autism research.

A member of IACC, the federal committee that shapes autism research, just said their new strategic plan "leaves the door open" on research into potential "triggers" of autism — including vaccines.

Back from lunch: a trio of moms — Jennifer Philips, Honey Rinicella, and Ginger Taylor — are explaining what caused their children to "regress" into autism. Both Honey and Ginger pointed to vaccines as one culprit.
