How many Scaramuccis is that?

PBS News@pbsnews.org

Katie Zacharia is departing as White House press secretary, a person familiar with the matter said Friday, after a short and rocky tenure that was defined by questions about her professional background and lack of polish in fielding questions from journalists. https://to.pbs.org/3VFxSrE

Please know that this is one of my few legitimate areas of actual, high-level professional expertise: Kicking the healthiest people off of a health insurance program will bankrupt it. Not 'could;' not 'might,' not 'probably," but absolutely will, with mathematical certainty.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Dr Oz says the Trump administration will kick more than a million people off health insurance because some of them have "never filed a claim"

Straight out of a disaster movie. Good lord.

NEW: This must one of the most violent natural disasters ever recorded. This is the immigration centre on Nepal’s border at 11am, this morning (Aug 26). That is a seven-storey building about to be obliterated in seconds. (🎥 NDTV)

The Trump administration is trying to gut one of the strongest laws protecting tribal sacred sites, burial grounds, and ancestral lands. Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act has worked since 1966. Now a handpicked Council voted to rewrite it..in one week. Here's what at stake.👇

"Do the thing you can do instead of beating yourself up over not doing the thing you're not doing" is honestly life-changing, even life-saving, advice.

This concept was introduced to me as "run the dishwasher twice" and was an important part of my executive functioning recovery as well as my path to self-acceptance.

Have not seen it pointed out enough that the Trump admin's targeting of the Smithsonian is being influenced by David Barton, the debunked amateur historian and Christian nationalist activist who has spent decades peddling claims that church-state separation is a myth.

Robert Downen@robertdownen.bsky.social

David Barton, the self-described "amateur historian" whose debunked work has been central to mainstreaming claims that the US was founded as a Christian nation, says he and his son have been directly involved in the Trump administration's efforts to stop "woke propaganda" at the Smithsonian.

I swear, "a pope from Chicago excommunicates a Nazi-adjacent sect" is like a cut scene from The Blues Brothers

Gross.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

The Trump administration is hosting an all-day prayer festival on the National Mall on Sunday that organizers say will reflect the country’s Christian origins and, they hope, spark “a movement of renewal” in America.

As a Wisconsinite, I feel this on many levels. 🧀🦡

Oreo is a rescue badger (Taxidea taxus) at the Northwest Wildlife Sanctuary in Oak Harbor, WA. www.northwestwildlifesanctuary.com She's being offered her favorite snack: cheese, to lure her from the safety of her dark void. Audio on for badger hissing. 🦡❤️🧀

I'm thankful to have graduated college right before the AI checkers became necessary - I'm pretty sure I would have had this issue.

Mike Masnick@masnick.com

Hmm. I just took a ~1500 word piece that I wrote word by word the old fashioned way like the actual writer I am, and ran it through an AI checker just to see what it said, and it highlighted 13 separate phrases that it thinks were likely AI generated. *sigh* This seems bad.

This is not good

The Trump administration asserts that a nearly 50-year-old law requiring the preservation of presidential records is unconstitutional. Historians warn important papers could be destroyed.

Yet another reason to be disappointed in Americans.

David H. Montgomery@dhmontgomery.com

A shocking new poll result: Many Americans somehow don't have a favorite dinosaur. And only 6% give the correct answer (triceratops). Check out YouGov's new polling on Americans and dinosaurs: yougovamerica.substack.com/p/whats-your...
