The other day, I got a press release claiming that ER visits among kids linked to e-bike crashes had increased *19.1 times over* in just 3 years. It almost certainly isn't true —  but the injured children are very real. Broke down what's really causing the bloodshed and who can finally stop it.

"Without zoning changes, most housing construction over the next 15 years will likely cluster in downtown Chicago and expensive neighborhoods with higher shares of white residents"!

Yonah Freemark@yonahfreemark.com

Chicago has been making strides to accommodate more homes. But zoning changes could accelerate construction. We estimate that reforms legalizing small apartment buildings & enabling high densities near all transit stations could add ~10,000 additional units compared to baseline by 2041.

The biggest victory here isnt even the bus lane itself. Its a victory over The Process: - make a committee - meet with The Groups - make a report - start a non-binding referendum - make a pilot - make a report - make a plan - deploy a few years later People are SICK of this.

"Approximately 1,490 CTA buses on 21 different routes use at least part of the new dedicated bus lane." I agree the lane should be extended, but a bus only lane in such a high visibility and traffic area will do wonders for setting precedent

Traffic safety made the front page and top story!! We need to do so much to prevent the next tragedy, but I'm glad that 21 alders (so far) are supporting this letter with just a few of those next steps

the lack of car traffic on DLSD yesterday and during the holiday today is reminding me of the spring-2020 time when the streets were so much quieter than normal. I know the "cities aren't loud cars are loud" thing is a meme but it really is striking

"Denver renters are seeing a brighter picture now as developers and managers cut rents and offer free-month subsidies to move a glut of units built during 2024 and 2025." Renters are *moving out of subsidized housing into market rate because the rent is cheaper because they built so much.*

no, they also collude to fix prices on existing stock. and when new stock is built they buy it up and set it at the existing fixed price. no amount of new builds has ever reduced rent, especially since it's being built by developers who want to build the most profitable units they can.

Single Stair continues to be a data-supported city law/code change held back by some bad-faith fear but potentially some good-faith implementation concerns on the backend. The implementation concerns can be fixed afterwards, so this should be an easy housing issue for mayoral candidates to support

Allowing single-stair complexes could create needed housing, but safety concerns loom in debate over ordinance

🚨 Urge your alder to hit the brakes on The 78 TIF! 🚨 Instead of investing in public transit like in the original 2019 plans, the City is now trying to ram through $216 million in public subsidies for a parking garage, with little transparency on the impact nor what public benefit this will provide.

Elston bike lane does not get enough credit!! It goes by some car dealerships but was 95% protected or buffered for this trip! Shameless divvy plug, that's a FREE 43 minute e-bike

🎉 It's official, we saved Chicago's intercity bus terminal! Today, Chicago City Council voted to purchase our former Greyhound terminal to establish a publicly-owned intercity bus terminal. This is a massive victory, and a testament to the years of organizing that brought us here today!

"Nearly every person who gathered to honor Riley could share a story of somebody close to them who had been injured or killed in a crash. And nearly every person understood that the unlicensed, uninsured, illegally parked driver who 'doored' Riley could have easily done the same to any of us."

chicagotribune.comLetters: Cycling advocate Riley O’Neil’s death after being ‘doored’ shows how important safer streets areTraffic safety is an issue that many cyclists feel strongly about. But make no mistake: This is an issue that affects everybody.

🚲 New Divvy record: 47,400 rides yesterday! The previous record (42,000 rides) was set just last Saturday. For context, there was only one day over 40,000 rides in all of 2025. Divvy has now had three in the last 8 days. Chicago keeps riding 🚀

One more way we're remembering Riley. The Divvy station at LaSalle & Washington is now the Riley O'Neil Memorial Station at City Hall. The new name is live in the app today, with signage coming soon. We miss you, buddy 💙🚲

CDOT lost the best of our team yesterday. We're heartbroken. In memory of Riley O'Neil, please refer to these bike racks as "Riley Racks". He led Chicago's bike parking program for several years. Our hearts are broken, but we want to make sure his legacy lives on 💙🚲 Please spread the word

Ald. Martin on single stair: I want people to feel a sense of urgency around this, to say with each new development that gets approved that could use [single stair] but doesn't...that we're losing the opportunity to house more families and people across Chicago

New research examines Waymo's California robotaxi trips btw Aug 2023 and Dec 2025. Conclusion: 46% of miles driven involved no one inside the car. That's 40 million miles of deadheading, with Waymo vehicles using road space w/o transporting a human. doi.org/10.32866/001...

Divvy just passed 2 million rides in 2026! Last year, the system didn’t reach that milestone until June 10. Chicago keeps riding more and more 🚲

It feels so good to see raised bike paths like this blooming across Chicago. The precedent each one sets hopefully makes the next one easier. Thank you Josh Mark specifically. You will be missed 🫡😭

Hell yeah "This decreases total spaces (19% cut), modestly increases rates (12.6% aggregated), and reduces meter concentration.⁹ Most importantly, it eliminates conflicts with active transportation infrastructure and prevents the city from having to incur true-up costs going forward."

Today CDOT and our counterparts in San Francisco & DC sent a joint letter to Lyft calling for a Bike Angels program that actually works in hybrid systems. The current version is built for fully docked systems like Citi Bike in NYC. Our hybrid systems don’t get the same benefits. 🧵
