Oh, and interest added to mortgages is back on the up - never got back to pre-covid levels. So, prepare to slump. prepare for the media blaming it on the rest of the world rather than the absolute ineptitude of our leadership.

Mortgage repayments overpowered loan drawdowns last quarter. For the avoidance of doubt, this is contractionary. It means repayments going back to banks (=money deleted) is more than value of new mortgage loans pumped into the economy (=money created). Explanation here: substack.com/home/post/p-...

It's funny buggers. Luxon likes to go on about Singapore, yet skips over the part about Singapore's huge public housing model, not to mention the vast sovereign wealth fund that NZ would have had, if the OG hadn't voted for Muldoon's rebate.

We are being structurally locked into a private healthcare model. As more routine work goes to the private sector, the work remaining in public is more complex and difficult. Conditions deteriorate, driving people to work in private more. And the cycle continues #investinpublichealthcare #nzpol

Tuesday. A struggle to remain professional after a decline in the lemon supply. Show them the entertainment vegetable. Reputation! Tuesday.

Jordan Williams will keep pushing as far as timid regulators will allow. This time it's featuring the Green party's "for all of us" slogan on an astroturf billboard attacking them. #NzPol

Max Soar@maxsoar.bsky.social

RNZ asking the Sensible Sentencing Trust and TPU for comment on the new attack billboards is yet more evidence they learned nothing from Dirty Work. These are bad-faith PR orgs and RNZ is willfully running cover for them.

“re elective surgeries, they pointed out Health NZ delivered 43,819 outsourced procedures in 2025/26 - many for patients who would otherwise still be waiting” Yes because insourced procedures are underfunded ffs

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day. Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.

This new electoral vídeo from Pedro Sánchez is quite something. Standing in front of Guernica defending the anti-war stance of his government, limiting military expenditure, denouncing the atrocity of Gaza. English subtitles.

Never have I seen the “born to rulers” rubbing it in the faces of the proles more Luxon’s expressions of their likelihood of winning is based on modelling they’ve done to see effects of voter suppressions they’ve put in place, we are already two steps behind them Every vote matters! #NZPol

And the common thread in all of this us that customers/voters are regarded as non-player characters: we are expected to have no agency to change the ground rules or the outcomes, either in the commercial market or the political marketplace of ideas

Luxon keeps telling us he was a CEO, but really he was just a serial monopolist. There appear to be very few points in his career where he had to fight it out with strong competitors, and so he’s much more inclined to use his market power to suppress competition

Sacha reposted

Luxon’s voter suppression tactics are perfectly aligned with his commercial experience at both Unilever and Air NZ - competition is something to be actively opposed at every turn, not a way of spurring innovation and better outcomes 🧵 #nzpol

This argument makes me so mad, so people don’t ever need to move house Mr Luxon? Everyone’s circumstance just stays the same? you giant ignoramus! #NZol

Well, we let the ringleader of the last coup take over the country, so they have good reason to suggest it.

union person@junlper.beer

pretty clear evidence that republicans in the US losing any election going forward are going to always beg for a coup if they lose. lots of people will have to go to jail

And on AI: “I don’t want to depend on Chinese nor American AI. I want to create a Brazilian intelligence.” He also mentioned having Brazilian data centres dealing with our intelligence. “We will no longer be a peripheral country. We want to be central.”

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

The thing that gets me about the restriction on people enrolling to vote after tonight is that there is of course no restriction on politicians not to change policy. We could see a major announcement re tertiary education & student fees tomorrow, for example. If you aren’t enrolled — too late.

Sometimes I think back to a radio broadcast about aggression on the road. A reporter mentioned that he very often received the middle finger from other road users. Self-reflection, I suspect, was not his strongest suit.

you guys i’m starting to think that gang and crime discourse is just a way for the right wing to launder fear and racism through the dominant centre-right media whilst maintaining a facade of respectability.

Or create the Ferry Fiasco - a subject I have heard mentioned a grand total of zero times during these so called ‘debates’. Or Seymour’s coincidental announcement of Paul bloody Henry’s a candidate the same day Jago finally admitted his guilt. Mainstream political media love themselves a distraction

The next Nat/ACT/NZF government will apply a scorched earth approach to public services, institutions and assets, claiming that re-election indicates popular support for the social vandalism clearly on display in their first term. The next iteration will be our own little version of Trump 2. #NZpol
