Truly excellent thread on #Romance and why narrative originality (often) is the result of working within genred tropes. Read it. #Romancelandia #Writing

Having seen the Joyce Carol Oates very bad, not good tweet about romance and AI, I can't help thinking about the way that romance has been treated as a punching bag for so long and always by people who are completely unwilling to engage with the genre and know little about it.

Lovely story in the NY Times today about a 92-year-old mathematician and a high-school kid working together to produce a major result in topology. This kind of working together is the best part of science, and frankly of being human.

An "aaaah" of a book. Sad, worried & bewildered Rafi stumbles into happiness and caring ever-after. R. Cooper is the poet of lonely love, and I have spent today having my heart-strings wrung in the best way possible. Thoroughly recommended. #Romancelandia

The Scent of the Ideal A little fantasy romance with a vaguely Musketeer-y vibe, and a bit of magic, but mostly lonely hearts finding each other and the heat is just an excuse. August 15th! books2read.com/u/bWnnKG

Listening on repeat to #SaintSaëns sublime "Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix" in the five versions of it I've amassed. #JessyeNorman nails the tentative initial confession of love which swells into a rapturous declaration, before drifting languorously down to a musical chaise-longue.

Ministers have one last chance, and a huge responsibility, to make sure the discriminatory draft EHRC Code is withdrawn, and write laws that protect the rights of trans people. So many MPs and leaders like @rachelmillward.bsky.social have stood up as allies to oppose it. #transrightsarehumanrights
