Six former students of a now-closed "troubled-teen" facility in Arizona told HuffPost they were abused. The facility's founder, Jeannie Courtney, told HuffPost she believes her accusers are making it all up.

JUST IN: Elon Musk has settled a class action lawsuit against him after he used his PAC and duped Trump supporters into giving away their personal information for the chance to randomly win $1 million. Turns out, the winners were predetermined. www.huffpost.com/entry/elon-m...
At the time, attorneys for Musk’s PAC admitted in court that it wasn’t actually a lottery because winners were selected “based on their suitability" to serve as spokespeople for the PAC and had earned the $1 million as payment.
Details of the settlement, including how much Musk will ultimately have to pay, were not immediately disclosed. But because it's a class action settlement, those details will become public in the near future. www.huffpost.com/entry/elon-m...
Michael Tracey published what he said was the ID of the "Jane Doe" in the Cornell case. Then he took it down, claiming he just wanted to make a point and didn't want to see harm to the person he named.
What he hasn't admitted is that he mistook info on a sketchy site for official NY court records.
I recommend people read this to get a sense of the president's grave cognitive impairment. Trump is either unwilling or unable (or maybe both) to answer the questions he's actually asked, so he just rants and raves while the interviewers do their best to provide structure to his random brain firings
Today is my last day at HuffPost. Like many others, I was hit by mass layoffs at BuzzFeed.
I've done my best to hold power to account and tell complex stories with care, and I'm going to keep doing that. So please keep sending me tips!

I spoke with some legal experts about Pirro’s reflecting pool case against the canoeist. It’s a really, really tough road for prosecutors.
They need to prove not only malicious intent, but the value of a peeling pool slab.
“I think a DC jury is going to be mad.”

Alex Jones knows the lies he's spread about the Sandy Hook families have led to unimaginable harassment. He simply doesn't care.

How do you catch a fascist?
Well, anti-fascists like @montrealantifa.bsky.social keep telling us. We just need to listen.
@letsgomathias.bsky.social wrote a book exploring these tactics and the way Antifa has continued to keep fascism at bay for generations.
I spoke to him on today’s episode:
In case you're unfamiliar with this batshit situation, here's my interview with Aliya shortly after she was handcuffed and dragged from the State of the Union, officers ditching her cane and telling her to walk without it.
“I just stood up." www.huffpost.com/entry/aliya-...
"After being held in isolation for about five days. Rodríguez was forced to strip naked in a shower while an officer "poured some kind of chemical liquid on her head, which seemed to be something used to clean floors and burned her eyes,” the filing read."
On Sunday @taiylersimone.bsky.social and I won a Writers Guild Award for our year-long investigation into the troubled-teen industry. We also got to meet the amazing Laëtitia Hollard. Thanks to the survivors for letting us tell their stories. Read it here: www.huffpost.com/entry/troubl...
On Sunday, @sebastianmurdock.bsky.social and I won a Writers Guild Award in the Digital News category!
I’m eternally grateful for all the people who trusted us with this story through our yearlong reporting journey, including our amazing @huffpost.com editors, visuals team & our brave sources.
Three new short stories by Luke O’Neil (@lukeoneil47.bsky.social)—"The rules,” “How to live,” and “Something that was once potentially good”—are excerpted here. All three appear in his new book of stories, We Had it Coming and Other Fictions, now out from OR Books.

Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.
NEW: Luigi Mangione wasn't happy with a judge's decision to set his state trial for June 8, months before his federal trial.
“It’s the same trial twice. One plus one equals two. Double jeopardy by any commonsense definition,” he said as he was leaving the courtroom, dressed in a brown jail uniform.
I asked Ron Wyden what his cryptic letter to the CIA was all about. He wouldn't say.
"I wrote it for a specific reason. That’s all I can say.”
He did a similar thing before, in 2011, and illicit spy activities were later revealed by Edward Snowden

We could not have pulled off this incredible deal without each and every member of the unit standing together. We are so proud and grateful to work alongside such brave and compassionate people. #SolidarityForever
“I’ve been working to the edge of sanity this year and so, once my kids head home after Christmas, I really want to hit the party scene in St Barts or elsewhere and let loose. The invitation is much appreciated, but a peaceful island experience is the opposite of what I’m looking for.”
Walz: "To Americans who are watching this, I've got a question for you: What side do you want to be on? The side of an all powerful federal govt that can kill, injury, menace, & kidnap its citizens off the streets? Or on the side of a nurse at the VA hospital who died bearing witness to such govt?"
The lull is over. More loud bangs. More tear gas. More people coughing.
"They just don't know anything between ego and panic," one woman is saying.
She said someone threw a plastic bottle near ICE agents and that's what set off the latest bangs.
I'm on site where a federal agent shot a Minneapolis man this morning. It's bad.
Dozens of federal agents are facing off with hundreds of outraged residents. People being tear gassed, helicopters above, I keep hearing pops, and lots of loud BANGS.
This smoke is from tear gas:
BREAKING: James Rodden, an ICE prosecutor who the Observer identified last year as the operator of an X account that posted “America is a White nation," “‘Migrants’ are all criminals,” and apparent praise of Adolf Hitler, appeared to be back at work Tuesday.

New: CBS News seems to be preparing a new segment called "Whiskey Fridays with Tony Dokoupil," per sources.
Some staff were only first made aware of it as they encountered CBS testing out set designs of a faux-stocked bar in the newsroom, featuring a large sponsor banner for Jack Daniels.
Update: Betar, the racist, ultra-Zionist group that encouraged the Trump administration to target pro-Palestine demonstrators, is winding down operations following an investigation by the NY Attorney General. OAG found that Betar's harassment violated state civil rights law ag.ny.gov/press-releas...
In its alleged fight against antisemitism, the Trump administration has relied on two groups with murky funders—one of which is in Israel.
Here's my deep dive @thebaffler.com into Canary Mission and Betar, two extreme Zionist groups at the heart of Trump's crackdown. thebaffler.com/latest/for-b...
I’ll be in Minneapolis briefly, until Tuesday morning.
I’m available at 646-397-4678 by cell or Signal, if anyone has tips or other things they think HuffPost readers ought to know. Ty!
One of the core purposes of right-wing media is to rewrite your memory and reprogram your moral response to an event you saw with your own eyes. George Floyd died of a heart attack. Jan 6 was a peaceful picnic. This process has already begun
an eyewitness to the Minneapolis ICE shooting told me the victim appeared "obviously scared" and "was going to leave" before an ICE agent fired multiple shots "right into, it seemed like, her face" www.huffpost.com/entry/ice-sh...
