I mostly ramble about trivial nerd stuff - or at least I'd like to, but I spend a lot of time hating on AI and bigots and it's funny how often the two overlap, isn't it?
I couldn't reproduce the sound my wife makes every time James Hurley shows up on screen with my own voice, much less in text. But if she directed it at me, I would retreat into a dark crevice somewhere and cry forever
Every time he pops up on screen at this point, both me and my cousin turn our heads away from the TV and towards her instead. She hates him. Haaaaaaaaaaaaates him, possibly more than BOB or Leo or anyone else in the show, and it's incredibly entertaining.
Twin Peaks watch status: We're well past the midpoint of season 2 - some of it bumpy, some of it great. And watching with other people makes the bad parts better - like how I almost look forward to the aimless James scenes because I want to see what kind of invectives my wife will throw at him.
We're almost through Season 1 - one episode short, which is almost annoying but we're all old and there's a limit to how late we can stay up on weekdays - and I love it so much. But that was always going to be the easy part for me. The real test is going to be season 2.

genAI can't both be the indisputable future of art AND a scarlet letter that's unfair to make people disclose. If you're the vanguard of the new frontier, surely the "haters" don't matter, right? They're bound to come around eventually. Right?
Or maybe you're just a fucking lazy thief.

It's the one year anniversary of the premiere of Dispatch, and it made me think of this blabbering I did on "choices matter" in general and one end-game choice in particular:
I'm seeing some talk about choice in Dispatch, particularly one near the very end (extremely vague spoilers): "What does it matter if I end up in the same place anyway," and, as it applies to this specific endgame choice, what I more implicitly read from it is "What does it matter if I can't fail?"
Still sometimes think about how I learned from an interview with devs from @adhocstudio.com that the reason the phrase "Choices matter" is so common in press releases etc for games with diverging plots is that the phrase "Choose your own adventure" is copyrighted

An indie game I was really looking forward to has snuck in an AI disclosure on Steam that just says "Text translations", which, my dude, language accessibility is great, but I think we could've forgiven a single-dev indie for being exclusively in English. What a fucking waste.
‘Wildwood’ director Travis Knight on AI:
“A pencil is a tool. A paintbrush is a tool. A 3D printer is a tool. A digital capture is a tool. AI is not a tool. AI can go fuck itself.”
I've made 6 open-source @godotengine.org projects perfect for as a base for your first or next game. Completely human-made and easy to understand code & comments. All visuals and sounds included, CC0!

Honestly, we should've stuck economists in the stocks - the literal, planks of wood around-people's necks ones - and pelted them with tomatoes all the way back when they came up with "Too much employment is bad"
So, pretty much as soon as it became a field of study
I thought this was a joke at first but it looks to be real and man they really couldn't give less of a shit about anyone who still watches the MCU; they're so blatantly like yeah "yeah those fuckers will come watch it anyways who cares" 💀

Laughing, crying, throwing up, etc. to have a debut novel coming out in spring 2028. It’s a funny literary novel called HENRY GOODWOLF about a legendary monster hunter and the limits of understanding.
I've spent two or three hours today figuring something out, just a hobby thing, and it's so niche and boring that I'm unable to describe it in a way that doesn't make *me* lose interest, but I'm honestly unreasonably happy with myself right now. Like, the sheer satisfaction of solving a problem.
If you are at Epic using generative AI to create art or animations you are a plagiarist and a thief and should never show your work (or face) in the gamedev community again.
NEW: Epic Games has delayed its upcoming (not yet announced) Star Wars + Marvel shooter as it pivots to complete AI game development.
"No more hand-written code," a director told staff. All art "generated with full AI workflows."

The very short but also context-less version is that I worked out a way to model a deltoidal hexecontahedron in CAD in a way that I much prefer to how it's done in the only YouTube tutorial I can find.
See?
I was really into Peter F. Hamilton for a while; I remember a friend at uni waaaay back in the mid-aughts recommending me Pandora's Star and loving it.
So yeah.
