If Matt yglesias really believes the democrats won't win unless their most annoying stakeholders shut the fuck up then why can I still see his posts?

Mom for Ghoulberty👻@fakegreekgrill.bsky.social

Usually politicians try to win a constituency and not the other way around. Imagine someone saying this about, like, farmers not doing enough to win over the libs. We all just accept that Republicans don't have agency and professors do.

idk if you were a member of class these people are part of, in the mid 19th century you might've had a vast estate with hundreds of literally enslaved people on it that you could torture and rape, in 2026, no matter how rich you are, you can still get in serious trouble for like groping an intern

The people who like to boast about America's greatness and the "American Century" have worked the hardest to erase it. From the creation of the Income Tax and the IRS right up until now. Deep down, they consider the 1900s a century of setbacks for them.

I don’t think we should worry so much about reaching dipshit voters. There’s a simple math to this: when their lives materially improve they vote republican, when their hierarchy of needs outweighs their cultural grievances, they vote dem. If we want their votes we should make them hurt more.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

"A huge number of American votes are totally misinformed about everything and were convinced to vote for Trump for totally absurd reasons" is an opportunity, not an intractable problem. Dems need to start aggressively playing the game of winning these voters that they've ignored for decades.

One weird trick

Research suggests, to me, that a D president should come up with any pretense at all to send people $1-2k checks in September of 2030 and 2032. Make up any excuse, it literally will not matter, just make sure your signature is on there.

If you can draw down the percentages of "total chumps who don't understand how anything works" to be 50/50 instead of 95/5 pro-Trump like it is now, Dems will cruise to big election victories.

I know they’re trolling but this should really be considered the end of whatever republic we were on (4th?) and the beginning of our new political era of (d)emocrats vs monarchists.

You always have to pay attention to what is actually happening, not what Trump says is happening. Because Trump lies about everything. Too often media serves as Trump’s daily stenographer, passing along his propaganda verbatim.

Cannot emphasize enough how much better off we'd all be if everyone treated these people the way you would a Serbian earnestly explaining to you the monumental importance of the Battle of Blackbird Field to his identity, language, and nation.

For all the conspiracies the simple and true explanation for Israel always getting whatever it wants is just that American leadership has an irrational fp bc we are racist and dumb.

I’ve been saying this for a while, but Trump won because he quite literally speaks a (variant of the English) language that non-morons cannot actually pull off

Me, joking: I can’t believe we chose “destroying the economy” and “losing wars” over “being nice to trans people occasionally” Conservatives, dead serious: it was a tough choice, but I’m glad we picked “destroying the economy” and “losing wars” over “being nice to trans people occasionally”

Madness. The war crimes, the deranged profanity, the casual Islamophobia. He has no idea how to solve the problem he created and he’s going to spin out about it until he nukes Tehran. He needs to removed and frankly, if he were any other world leader, we’d understand he needs to hang for his crimes

one thing I feel like hasn't penetrated the consultant class brain yet is that as things get really bad, and they're getting worse all the time, americans are going to want vengeance. not justice (that too). but vengeance.

This 80 second clip of Justice Robert Jackson’s opening statement will send shivers down your spine. Commit it to memory like the Gettysberg address. It’s even more important than Lincoln’s speech because we forgot his words the first time. We can’t promise “never again” if we don’t remember.

You flip the tortoise over on its back. Its belly bakes in the hot sun, but it can’t flip over, not without your help. But you don’t help it. Why?

They really thought they’d just surrender. That was the actual plan. We have to stop letting stupid people vote.

i am thinking out loud here and worry i sound like an idiot. i think what i mean to say is the reality of messaging or a narrative so frequently outpaces the reality of what's actually happening that what's really happening doesn't matter as much to things like the economy as it should.
