When I say I don't understand the economy I'm saying I don't understand why there's always infinity dollars available to burn when rich people have a chance to do something stupid and racist

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

The right is spending the day complaining that Abdul El-Sayed was "rude" and "a bully" to Tommy the Republican Operative at his town hall, which is hilarious given how they had nothing to say about a woman getting beaten up at a Trump rally as the president cheered on.

The common thread in Pete Hegseth's rant to the troops, JD Vance suggesting Talarico is a pedophile, Brendan Carr calling the Trump ads aired with tax dollars "normal force PSAs," and Eric Schmitt fabricating a Jack Smith conspiracy is the whole GOP is incentivized to be performatively evil.

The United States: where giving a frail voter waiting in the Georgia sun a glass of water is punishable by a year in prison, but the president can offer everyone $5k to vote for his party.

every single day elon musk says or endorses stuff on x dot com that is worse than any of the quotes they've pulled up for hasan piker and he will be the single biggest political donor in the entire country, supporting republicans up and down the ballot somehow none of them are asked about it

a lot of you are probably too young to remember this but obama reading off a teleprompter used to be a huge scandal because conservatives said it meant he didnt mean what he was saying

"That's what they give me to read, so what can I tell you? ... I don't know what the hell that means" -- Trump is surprised by the stuff he's straight up reading from the text that was prepared for him

theres that literary saying “sometimes the curtains are just blue,” meaning sometimes youre reading too much into the text… …but sometimes the curtains arent just blue, sometimes the author is trying to convey symbolism or foreshadowing or whatever. with ai the curtains are always just blue

There’s been a lot of talk in this race about what makes a "real man." A man does what’s right when no one is watching. He upholds his commitments to his family and neighbors. He doesn’t lie, cheat, & steal his way through life. Real men serve others. Weak men serve themselves.

Imagine how angry Americans would be if the media had adequately explained to them that Obama had secured a deal that was preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and Trump blew it the fuck up.

I think we need to celebrate the death of Sora a bit more. This is a technology that, just MONTHS AGO, we were being told was going to literally destroy Hollywood and Disney was going to give them a BILLION DOLLARS and NONE OF THAT EVEN REMOTELY HAPPENED

always interesting when and how the "God said it, I believe it, that settles it!" crowd suddenly finds nuance in how biblical laws are applied to a modern context.

How? How do you double-check the accuracy, if you're not already an expert? Ask a different GenAI? Or do you, you know... Have to go and do the research you would have done anyway, pre-AI? Because I'm buggered if I can think of how you do that in a way where the GenAI saved you time.

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street

Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

I’m physically following them around using my government name telling them to arrest me and they haven’t bothered to arrest me. Also half the US Attorney’s office here in MN just resigned! They do not have a case and they do not have manpower, but their only tool is trying to be menacing.

MILLER: The US is using its military to secure our interests unapologetically in our hemisphere. We're a superpower. It's absurd we'd allow a nation in our backyard to become a supplier of resources to our adversaries TAPPER: Sovereign countries shouldn't be able to do what they want? M: *yells*

all the fake AI trash really contradicts one of the main ways we're told capitalism operates, with capitalists identifying wants/needs & developing products & services to meet those. turns out you can skip that step & just pretend. nigh everyone hates AI and it makes no money but it's everywhere

This meta of "ITS BAD" videos about games blows man. As a lifelong hater, this deep level of hating is exhausting mainly because I know it's not from a place of genuine critique, it's never a discussion for wanting things to be better, it's just being negative to generate clicks. Absolute shite

the symbolism of “Trump destroying the White House for a overpriced luxury vanity project, during a government shut down, days after a historically-large mass demonstration against his regime called “No Kings”’ would be rightly viewed as laying it on a little thick if it was in a work of fiction

America is being run by people whose social media presence would see them getting fired from a part time job stacking shelves. If you worked at Aldi and posted a video of you pouring shit all over Aldi customers, you wouldn't work at Aldi.

its kind of insane that we’ve been forced to watch rightwingers openly celebrate and taunt everyone over the death of people like trayvon martin for over a decade now and now they’re trying to grandstand over the one time it’s personally affected them and political project
