"The math on build vs buy has changed!" Definitely in some fashion yes, but the problem wasn't just the building - it was maintaining what you built. Everything has a tax, and I'd rather not tax my engineers with things that aren't meaningful for our business or our developer experience.

I think the hardest part in really adopting this is designing with dynamic flow control in mind. The advice is correct, but I think many of us just haven't seen it done well enough to really get how to propagate it into our systems effectively.

It seems the crypto community has found a new way to extract money from people. They are creating tokens for popular open source projects and inviting maintainers to get in on the scheme. Here is the email I got earlier today.

I think I just made a really cool chart but I don't wanna be that guy posting in work slack about my cool chart at 8:30 am in my first month on Xmas morning. That's kind of a year 2 move imo.

All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID. DHH is what techno-fascism looks like in the little leagues: A now-wealthy immigrant whose life's story embodies the promise of open societies now writes as though openness is cultural suicide. Same for Musk & Thiel. An open and accepting society made them who they are. They'd be nothing otherwise.

The Secret Service isn't claiming it foiled any plot targeting the UN General Assembly. Just that a big collection of SIMs (probably used for fraud) could have *potentially* disrupted NYC cell service. The SIMs were in a *35 MILE* radius of the UN. These headlines are all pretty egregiously wrong:

Andy Greenberg@agreenberg.bsky.social

A giant SIM farm in the NY area with 100,000 SIMs was most likely used for spam/scams and even swatting US officials—which led the feds to find and dismantle it. (Speculation it was going to be used to attack the the UN General Assembly seems like...a bit of a leap.) www.wired.com/story/sim-fa...
