Tales from the school bus stop: I watched a driver glued to their phone blow through a stop sign and turn the wrong way down a one-way street. Completely oblivious to their surroundings and the danger they posed to everyone else.

Occasionally On Here, I rip fellow Boomers who point to their high first-house mortgage rates (mine was 8.75% in 1994) and wonder Why The Youth Can’t Figure Out Home Buying. Obviously, it’s the prices! Here’s a solid piece explaining just how historically bad it is: wapo.st/4zGZTO5 (gift link)

I've never struggled to believe reports of bad behavior by cops because even in my very limited interactions with them in my life, they've often been remarkably unprofessional, rude, and threatening. Just suggested one shouldn't block the only accessible sidewalk and he called me a p*ssy and more.

Apparently one of my kid’s classmates saw an ai poster on wall at school and made a petition for it to be removed And they took it down! The kids are alright

Semi truck parked in the bike lane downtown. Driver said he can’t fit his 18 wheeler in the loading dock to deliver beer. Maybe don’t drive a giant fucking semi into the middle of a fucking city.

Harris County TX. He's hospitalized: "ICE claimed the man ran in front of the agents' vehicle and was struck. However, the surveillance video appears to show the SUV veering left through empty parking spaces before running the man over..." abc7.com/story/ice-ru...

A driver speeding through the neighborhood, like they usually do. Only stopped at the stop sign at the bus stop because I yelled. Then, while my wife and other child were crossing in front of them the driver lunged their car at them… wtf is wrong with people?

On my 15-minute commute home today, I counted 53 drivers that ran a fully red light,12 drivers who put themselves in the middle of an intersection when the light turned red, and 16 drivers blocking a crosswalk or bikeway crossing.

We have a winner! The Green Line Extension will be picking me up on on June 12, 2027!

Alex Schieferdecker@alexschief.bsky.social

No inside knowledge from work we don't know either. That said, I've had a June 12 launch on my calendar for a year, that's still my bet. Green Line and B Line both launched on June 14th, second Saturday of the month.

Crossing the street to meet my kids at the bus stop, a driver rolled a stop sign and nearly hit me. Another rolled through it. I said, “That’s a stop sign.” He backed up and asked what I said. I told him, “You rolled it like it wasn’t even there.” “That’s right. Fuck you,” he replied, and drove off.

Hi, do you bike with kids on a cargo/family bike in the winter? I’d love to update my winter bike clothing guide to mention this but don’t have kids, so I’m soliciting help! Please let me know if you’d be willing to provide some perspective/experience and I’m happy to credit you on the guide.

All my homies hate Jacob Frey.

Wedge LIVE!™@wedge.live

Today marks an escalation in the Minneapolis government structure wars we've been fighting since 2021. Mayor Frey has decided MPD and other departments don't have to show up to answer questions from the city council, so he's directing them not to. They can do it via memo.

I’m super pumped for Hennepin to finally have dedicated space for both delivery drivers and bicyclists on this block, and for the bikeway gap along Lake Street to finally be closed. This is going to be such a huge improvement!

Wedge LIVE!™@wedge.live

city will fix 2 notorious Uptown bike lane problems between now and 2028: -connect the missing link on Lake between Humboldt & Hennepin Ave. -convert to a 2 way bike lane on Hennepin between Lake & 31st; create curbside parking for food delivery drivers who always park in the existing lanes.

So the State Fairgrounds markedly increased the size of the Como bike lot this year. It’s still not big enough.

Stephen reposted

The bike lot on Como at the MN State Fair at around 5PM was pretty full, but there were some spots available on the racks. Im guessing it was more full earlier. The staff onsite made it easy. This is the easiest way to park at the fair by far. But they definitely need more bike parking!

In that liminal space between sleep and awake this morning I had a revelation that what Minneapolis needs for downtown is a beautiful, airy city-owned indoor public market with low cost rent for local food and creative businesses. Honestly v weird to me that we don't already have one.

Beautiful morning for a ride, with what should be a beautiful view of Loring Park. Instead, the view is mostly parked cars.
