On this day in 1859, John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry begins. Although ultimately defeated, the uprising is considered an important cause of the Civil War and thus did help lead to the abolition of the institution of slavery. anticolonialhistory.com/event/124/

In Today's Grave You Didn't Ask To See, Dred Scott is buried under this stately monument in Calvary Cemetery in St Louis.
I hope the marker language is more direct than this article. It notes the enslaved Dred Scott was “brought to” Fort Armstrong, IL, by an Army officer. He was “brought” as a slave, and stayed a slave at two Army bases in the North. At the second, in Minnesota, he met Harriet, who’d become his wife.

When white supremacists described the first black politicians winning elections in the South during Reconstruction, they too called it a "reign of terror" that innocent white people had to suffer under. Black leaders! Elected to federal office! Can you imagine the indignity?!
NEW: U.S. House Rep. Bennie Thompson's "reign of terror" in Mississippi "is over," Gov. Tate Reeves says, urging the ousting of the state's only Black member of Congress through redistricting before the end of 2027. He made that pronouncement even as he canceled a special session on redistricting.
